5-7 here, and man do I tread a thin line. Typically if I get less than five or six, I'm very tired all day, but if I get more than eight, I feel groggy and slugish.

Re: Sleep
I'm the same way. I think the longest I've ever slept was 15 hours and I felt SO good the next day. Although I don't really like sleeping that much as it wastes most of the day. 8 hours is fine for me.Indianapolis Colts

Re: Sleep
I do get a normal 7 or 8, but my window of sleep is shifted big time. Get to bed at 5 in the morning and get up at 1ish. I do it because I read a lot of the posts in here and realize that I'll have to be getting up at a normal time for the majority of my life. I'm taking advantage of my freedom that I have right now in college.Comment

Re: Sleep
5-7 with it hovering mostly around 5. When you work at least 10 hours a day, want to spend time with your family, and have a kid, it's hard to justify sleeping in even on weekends. I haven't slept past 8AM in probably 15 years.
I'm tired, like anyone else who gets 8 hours sleep, but I'm not falling down or in any exhausted state. I wake up daily at 4:30 without issue, most of the time I wake up on my own.
If I get 5 hours of sleep, I'm functioning without a nap until 11-11:30 at night without issue.Comment

Re: Sleep
Typically anywhere from 5-7 hours, as I am a very light sleeper. I typically wake up a few times a night, mostly because my left nostril gets so clogged up that it completely shuts (deviated septum, or however it's spelled). I'm typically trying to fall asleep around 10:30 and wake up at 5:50 for work, so on the occasion that I don't wake up during the night, I get some pretty good sleep. Also, on weekends, me and the wife trade off days sleeping in a couple extra hours. I sleep from like 11-8 on Saturday, and she does the same on Sunday. It's really nice for both of us to get some extra rest on weekends, as we both have pretty draining jobs.
The last two nights have been brutal though. My son has been battling a nasty cold, along with a horrible cough, high fever, and a very runny nose. So he's been waking up at like midnight each night and having to come in the bedroom with us, where he hasn't slept at all the last two nights. He has his own bed, and does really well staying in it all night, but the last two nights have been rough on him.Comment

Re: Sleep
On most nights, I get about 6 hours of sleep max, but that's due to scheduling and obligations. I stay up very late every night.
If it was up to me though, I'd sleep at least 11 hours a day.
I take a nap during the day a few times a week though, but even besides that, I still have a hard time getting to bed before at LEAST 4am, and waking up early. Also, if I knock out somehow at like 1am, there is no way that means that I'll be up at 9am ready to go.Comment

Re: Sleep
Right now, I'm working on about three hours, but only because I woke up early (5 a.m.) to write a paper and couldn't get to sleep last night. I'll probably nap for an hour or two later today.
I like to get at least eight hours, if I can. Most of my days in college don't begin until after noon, so I can usually do it pretty easily.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment

Re: Sleep
In high school we had to be there by 7:40 and I'd wake up around 7:32-7:33 regularly. If I lived any further away I would've been screwed, especially considering I almost was anyway. If I would've been late to school one more time my junior year I wouldn't have been able to go to promComment

I wasn't on the "wake up 10 minutes before school starts" schedule, but I had a hard time making it to class my senior year, partially because I lived so close to the school and just didn't care any more. I had Honors Calculus first period and I missed it 19 times my seniro year. Another missed class and I would have had to go in front of the school board and explain myself and try to beg for a diploma.
My grade in that class basically when from a 90 the first quarter to a 78 the second quarter to a 72 to the third quarter to a 58 the final quarter... lol.
My friend would call me in the morning and be like "Hey, did you study for the Calc test?"
"What Calc Test?" I'd reply.
"You want to go get breakfast?"
"Sounds perfect."
And I'd put off the test for a while until I was able to at least figure out what the material was.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment

Re: Sleep
Unfortunately our school had this policy where after being late 3 times, you got a detention for each one after that, so I had so stay 30 minutes extra umpteen times. I finally discovered a loophole my senior year and substituted being late for just not going, and yet somehow my GPA was higher that year than it had been since the first marking period of 6th grade.
I'm not sure how I managed to never get a detention for my tardiness. That loophole of just not going to school instead of going late sounds pretty familiar... maybe I used it as well... lolOriginally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? Re: Sleep
Cebby, if anyone here knows health it's me. I am in great health. Yes I'm still somewhat overweight but i've lost more weight than probably 90% of anyone in this forum (49 pounds). I am not really offended by your post, I just wanted to correct you.
In general, the best expert you can find on a subject is the person who has been on the other side (for example who is going to know more about smoking and how to quit than a nonsmoker who used to be a smoker?) and through knowledge have turned their lives around, and that would be me.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Sleep
To be honest, I don't know how anyone who has a high profile/demanding job can get a lot of sleep if they ever want to spend time with their family and get everything else in their life done. Especially if they are in the IT world. Blackberries keep most IT people tethered to work 24/7/365. I suppose that's the nature of the beast.Last edited by mjb2124; 04-20-2010, 01:42 PM.Comment
