My brother and sister have recess and PE.
What we need to do is treat fatties like smokers and drug users since fatties probably cost us more than both in medical costs. Ridicule and tax them.Last edited by Cebby; 05-03-2010, 08:24 PM.Comment

The only thing ridiculing someone like that is gonna do is make them hate you, hate society, and feel like crap. Oh, and it will probably make you feel better about yourself and your insecurities.Comment

Stigmatizing tobacco has dropped usage in the US. I don't see why it wouldn't work with fatties.Comment

Constant ridicule from all directions is going to do absolutely nothing but seriously harm their mental health. They will be reduced to nothing but a self-conscious lump.
If someone keeps getting made fun of because of their weight, there is no way they are going to want to go out and change that. That is just subjecting yourself to more ridicule, when they want to get as far away from society as possible.
Not to mention the chance that someone's weight is influenced by genetics.
I've seen the way such an environment affects overweight people, and it is absolutely terrible. I've seen people reduced to tears. And at that point, it doesn't stop, it just gets worse.
But I can tell from your use of the term "fatties", that trying to persuade you is a worthless effort, and you are going to go out and ruin someone's day because they are bigger than you.Comment

Why should we do that? Send homeless to fight for your freedom? Because they don't mean as much as you, right?
And I'm so sick of the height/weight standards in the Navy. When I was deployed another corpsman was about 20 pounds overweight but he was a great great combat corpsman. He saved lives and fought right me and the other corpsman and the marines. He got a lot of crap for being overweight also.
When we got back he got a crappy eval which mean he didn't get advanced to the next rate and he ended up getting out of the Navy because of it.
He was overweight but he could PT great and did his job well, but the Navy was more worried about his weight.
The military should not worry about weight, if you can do your job well that should be enough. I've seen plenty of very fit 6-pack having corpsman who could not do their job well, they just couldn't get medical down.Comment

Re: US youngsters are too fat to fight, warn generals
Making fun of people might now help. Accepting them for who they are certainly isn't going to help.
You don't address your flaws by being told that there's nothing wrong with them. Nobody has a problem with saying that about anything other than weight.
Would you not say anything to a kid who goofs off in class, doesn't do his/her homework, and pulls Ds and Fs in school? If a kid wants to play basketball but shoots 30% from the line, would you not tell him to improve that?Comment

The gym, any sort of running/walking/biking path, any place that isn't fast food, etc
Making fun of people might now help. Accepting them for who they are certainly isn't going to help.

If a kid is doing poorly in school, I would let him know the problem, some possible methods of solution, and encourage him to be more successful. NOT make fun of him.
If a basketball player is only shooting 30% on foul shots, I am going to let him know that he has a problem, offer some solutions, and encourage him to become a better player.
NOT make fun of him.
Same thing with overweight issues. Instead of saying "Hey fatty, why don't you go eat a Twinkie.", let's encourage better food choices and more exercise.
Ridicule=/=Encouragement
You can encourage someone to reach a goal without making them feel like ****, become self conscious, and ultimately choose not to solve the problem due to fear of more ridicule.Comment

Cebby, I don't know anything about you other than what you post here.
Most of it seems inflamatory or painted with wide sloppy brush strokes. But those are your opinions...and good for you that you feel so strongly about them that you'd come share them.
But you can go to my arena pictures/videos, and see I'm that "fattie" that you're trying to rile up. But take a harder look at what my 42 year old, 300 pound can still do physically. I'm not a "drain" on society. I don't congregate in fast food parking lots sucking down fries or any other of those sterotypes you're throwing around.
I'm not built for speed. I'm built for power.
My body type is what it is.Comment

You would be surprised on how many people serve in the US armed forces who aren't American citizens. I've known a lot of people who join and aren't yet citizens or have served 5-10 years maybe more and aren't citizens yet.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment
