Being held in contempt is different that being charged with a crime. You don't have a bond unless the judge wants to give you one for some reason. Not sure about the phone call, but calling someone isn't gonna help you unless they can convice the judge to let you out. Normally you are just there until the Judge decides to let you out and where I live that can be as long as 6 months. This is the one area where a judge has incredible power.

Overall, I agree that courtroom dress is generally awful. I've got pictures of some of the craziest things people wear to court. Maybe I will post some later. Examples include: wife beaters, flip flops, daisy dukes, tuxedo t-shirts, sweatpants with "mickey" or "juicy" across the butt, half shirts, thongs showing, tramp stamps showing, and an entire purple suit and an entire canary yellow suit.

Gotcha thanks. Then she really has no case at all. But I have a gut feeling she will end up getting something out of this. What a slob.

Not that I would do anything this stupid in court, but after reading the story I'm on the side of the girl. Whether she's lying or not when she said that she came directly from the gym and didn't have time to change doesn't make a difference to me. It's the fact that she didn't get any opportunity to remedy the situation and was put directly in contempt of court that bothers me. The judge probably has a right to do that as it's his courtroom, but I just think that's too much power. For a judicial system that prides itself on procedure, there was too much misuse of power with what seems like a very quick action.

Side note, I also don't care if she wins the case or not, actually I hope she loses just because I think there's too many civil suits as it is. My main point is that the judge should have to follow some sort of procedure before throwing someone in contempt of court. He might have done that in real life, but by what was reported in that story, it didn't seem to be the case.

We don't know the full story here. I highly doubt the judge just straight through her into the jail. I'm under the belief she talked **** when the judge told her to change the shirt.

I could be wrong, it's just speculation but I have a feeling were not getting the full story.

If the judge's first action was to throw her in jail then that is wrong, just kick her out of the courthouse.

Yea that's my point. I don't really believe that what's reported was the full story. But if legally, it could be the full story, I have a problem with that. Basically if this could ever happen exactly as reported, I think that would be wrong.

I don't think the girl should have been thrown in jail. I do think she should have been asked to leave the courtroom, though.

Yeah, it's been my experience that judges aren't total douches and will usually give you a chance to change before throwing her out. Something must have happened.

If she was thrown in jail for simply wearing it then it's wrong. However, if the judge asked her to leave and threw a fit then then entire scenario changes. Either way though she shouldn't have worn the shirt to court. Need to show a little more respect.

I agree...she didn't deserve all this if she didn't throw a fit. The judge should have asked her to leave and that would be that.

Either way she shouldn't have worn it there, but jail and all that if she didn't throw a fit? Sounds like overkill
