The sad part about it is I think OS was his primary means of socialization.

ODogg...serious question. I know you said that you are estranged from your Father and wish to not be associated with him, but what about your Grandfather, or Great Grandfather? Do you wish to be associated with them?

To me it seems kinda sad that since you're estranged from your father that you're going to let your family bloodlines die out. Why not make the last name something to be proud of? So if one day, you're blessed with a son, he can carry on the name and let it forever live and stand for strength and class?

Re: Anyone here ever changed your last name?

My grandfather was an alcohlic who died when I was young. I don't think he ever really knew me. And my grandmother on that side of the family disliked me and even went so far as to give all of my toys away to my cousins, LOL. The name is basically so associated with my father and his family that I don't think it fits me well. The family has a construction business and most of the men are blue-collar, hard drinking, fighting guys who are sort of the opposite of someone like me (i'm the kind of guy they no doubt make fun of and in their younger years hazed mercilessly LOL).

Also, I've researched the name and the name isn't even a real name, the original Hough was Hoffenmeyer. So it's a bastardized nonsensical name as it is. If I was going to keep it and try to make it into an honorable name I would think the first thing to do is make it a proper German name instead of one that's meaningless and incorrect.

Just change it to Shaun Hill after the awesome NFL QB!

Oh, and change it to whatever you want...I personally can't relate to disliking your name that much, but if it actually bugs you then whatever it takes.

For me I can't imagine being annoyed enough to go through all that crap. I hate moving and changing addresses, this is infinitely worse lol

Well like I said, it's not just not liking it, it's I don't have much of a connection to it either. I think the easiest way might be to just get married and take the woman's name. Of course depending upon what state you do that in then it could be the same as getting a regular name change.

I work with 3 divorced women who actually keep the last name of there past husbands because it's too much trouble.
              Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Re: Anyone here ever changed your last name?

I was actually interested in doing this a while back. I was born 3 years before my parents were ever married, and my mom gave me a conjoined last name (wedlock).

I got my (mother's maiden name-father's last name) for a last name so its like this Lastname1-Lastname2.
I've wanted to drop my mother's maiden name and use my father's last name as it would be. But I never knew how much it would cost me, I was always told thousands and for that much, it wouldn't be worth it.

It doesn't cost thousands, I've priced it and its about $250-300 but it may vary by state...
