I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

You can't put into words the courage those men showed that day. It is unbelievable.

I wonder if we'll ever see a large ground war between the world's superpowers like World War I or II again? I just don't see how it could happen in the modern world, but then again I'm no military expert.

It sucks for the people of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but it's a better tradeoff than the alternative.

The atomic bomb is the only thing that kept Operation Downfall from starting on November 1, 1945 and Olympic and Coronet (the two invasions) would have been likely been bloodbaths as Iwo Jima and Okinawa were.
I can vouch for this as I did nearly two months of research for a thesis for one of my classes last semester. The dropping of the atomic bomb was a horrible way to end a bloody war, but the decision should be viewed through the eyes of time, not from the safe fortress of historical hindsight.

Large ground war won't ever happen again due to tomahawk missiles and such.

You can't win a war on tech alone though. And not every country out there has that kind of tech as well.

This could have been true had the Allies not f'd up the endgame of WWI.

The wild thing is that the US' March fire-bombings on Tokyo killed more people than the atomic bombings of Hiroshima or Nagasaki, though the atomic bomb was only one bomb compared to a multitude of bombs dropped on Tokyo.

As long as American lives are not at stake it's ok? Atomic bombs are the definition of worthless. Innocent people die everyday in every country....Why are we better than anyone else?

I truely thank the troops who served us...I would not be typing this if it were not for them. I salute them.
