lol... Sounds like me. Vegas, Hawaii, San Antonio with only two brief stints overseas (Kuwait and Iraq for a grand total of 4 months of my 9+ years).

That's why you have to know about AMS. It's a website that basically lets you apply for any open jobs in your AFSC. It gets updated monthly. Pick your own career before they pick one for you.
I did all right. I went delayed and went into Weather. I was an Observer, which I'm not even sure if they still have. I was in sunny Vegas, as well. Well, kinda. I was at Tonopah. Real nice as an A1C having an apartment with full BAS,BAQ and VHA. (had a little extra $150 a month called "dirt pay" as well.) Did all right for the late 80's. So how long does it take to be eligible for "retread" now? You had to do at least four back in the day. So you're saying that you can apply for a job in your AFSC at any base that has an opening? That's sweet. You just prayed back in the day you didn't have to say "why not Minot?!!!!" LOL!

I lived on 11th Street. 1775-A, to be exact.. Same side of the main road as the elemetary school and gas station. Used to go back to the dam at the reservoir. I'm sure those houses are long gone. That was right after my Dad became an Officer. We were so broke, but didn't even know it. I do miss Busch Gardens and all the history that is there. But I sure don't miss the heat...

I think it's still four, but I'm not sure. I love my job, so I never want to change (Imagery Analysis/Predator Sensor Operator). As for the jobs, that's how they have it set up now. It's updated monthly, so if you log in early in the month, you can still get decent pickings. That's how I scored Hawaii.

You were in Tonopah? I'm sorry. When I was in Vegas, I worked out of Indian Springs, so I can feel your pain.

That side is still the same except they tore down the PX/Gas Station.

I got use to the heat/humidity a long time ago. I came here indirectly from Wyoming so It was hotter out there but the heat was dry. First few years here I couldn't get use to the sweating while standing still aspects of VA. But I adapted.

You'd be going officer I assume.... You should do it. You do have to be a little "off" to join the Marines, but that's what makes one a good Marine.

I was never married while in. I was dating my wife for about 2 years while in the Corps. When I picked up Corporal the barracks at TBS were at 98% occupancy. Whenever the occupancy is that high NCOs were able to submit a request for BAH/BAS. Me and my roommate at the time (Cpl Deane) did that, and we were livin large thereafter.

The two of us rec'd about $850- or so each, monthly. Rent was $820- so we both pocketed about half of our BAH a month. It was beautiful! DC is expensive.

I did the opposite. We went from Langley out to Hill in Utah. Hardly any snow and humidity forever to snow by the foot and dry heat in the summer. I loved Utah. But Virginia had it's charms, too.I used to love the little PX/Gas Station, used to go buy all of my baseball cards and get gas there to cut lawns. And I'd always go over and do the paddle boats and fish at the little park across the causeway. And then when we'd go to Busch Gardens, that was a blast. The Lock Ness Monster was THE roller coaster to ride. Too bad I was too afraid, LOL! Good memories. I wouldn't change a thing about growing up a brat. The Air Force took my family a lot of places and we got to see a lot of the world.
