They probably don't wear their uniform off-base much. The hot ones, you can't even tell they are in the military.

I'm thinking about joining the Marines after I graduate from college (Dec 2010). Everybody thinks I'm out of my mind, but it's something I've always wanted to do.

Ok here is the thing regarding your GF, the Military does not officially recognize Girlfriends so you will not be able to live with her once you get to your duty assignment. Dont tell your dad... But go to the local court and get a quick marriage, If you are married when you get to your duty station, they will give you a nice house, more money for food, and a better Cola (cost of living allowance) percentage.

Or you can be a baller like me and get your own apartment and pocket the BAH they give you. I seriously would save $500 when I was stationed in Newport, RI because my rent was so low and the rest of my BAH was pocketed. Right now I'm pocketing all my BAH.

I recommend doing the BAH route rather then living on base housing, because they will take all your BAH and you will end up with no extra money as opposed to renting something less then your BAH. Unless you don't trust yourself with paying rent and extra bills, then base housing would be a good route.

Also if you do happen to get married you will get Family Separation Pay when your separated from your wife. As in boot camp or any other assignments where she can't go with you.

Being married in the military is definitely great for your finances, until you deploy and you have $2 left in your bank account.

Re: My stepson is joining the Air Force

No doubt Air Force women are HOT, mainly because Air Force personnel for the most part don't have to do so much physical long road marching stuff like the army and marines. So therefore they aren't muscle toned buffed. I swear marine and army chics have too much buffness for my liking.

I remember when I went to the med station right before I shipped off to go to army boot camp and I seen this air force recruiter walking down the hall with some long sexy legs with some curves. She looked like a model no lie. All the guys mouths dropped like holy crap LOL.

All my time in the Army everytime I came across an air force chic, she was fine as hell. In the end though I ended up with an older Navy chic, she is out now though. But where I live now, damn near everybody here is ex military. Lots of navy, army and marines around here. Haven't came across an air force person yet though.

I remember when I deployed over seas and one of my buddies wife went buck wild. He went to buy something and it said he didn't have no funds, he checked online and she drainned the account on a shopping spree. Needless to say they didn't stay married long after that.

When I was deployed this Marine I was with lost everything. His wife ended up cheating on him and I don't know the full story or how she was able to do this but pretty much took all of his money and took everything. That is an evil bitch. We just went through 7 months of hell, only to come home to that ****.

How long did it take for you to get off post though? A new E-1 is not going to get off post for at least a year, probably longer now that the Air Force has all these fancy new Barracks. You can get married but she doesn't have to go w/ you, move in w/ some new friends and pocket the rest...

I'm married so that is why I was able to live off base.

From what I've seen is if you are not married you have to at least be an E-4 with some years in to live off base and get BAH. Everywhere I've been both with Marines and Navy I've not seen any single guys who were below E-4 and single live off base. And even E-4's had to request a chit to get BAH which was up to your COC.

I was an E4 and had to ask a million times to finally get off post. Thats what I was saying though, You gotta be married to get off post unless you have been in awhile and are not a problem child.

Oh yeah I know that, the post above was for if he was married. If he is not married he will be in the barracks for awhile, but most AF barracks are nice. And plus I had some great times in the barracks, but still it is so much better living off base.

Not true at all. I'm AF, and the only people that I know who didn't pick their own jobs were the ones who joined "open general" which means they didn't care what job they got.

I worked maintenance at Bethel Manor for 2 years then the sub contracted managment changed and I was let go.

They've since completely demolished the housing on the side opposite the water tower and rebuilt it. I'm wondering if it's no longer base supported housing cause no guard shack/gating on that side anymore.
