Re: My stepson is joining the Air Force

Thanks everyone, I'll be sure to point him to this thread. He posts on a rare occasion.

Mgo, yes... We've had a few issues here and there, but he seems to have his head on straight now. He's 20 now, for all those that knew I had a stepson. Raised him since he was 5. Too bad he didn't stick w/ basketball, because he was turning into a stud. Girls can get in the way of that, sometimes.

Re: My stepson is joining the Air Force

My father worked on jet engines in the USAF for 20 years and is now retired. He was in Travis AFB (CA), Charleston SC, and Plattsburgh, NY. I lived in Plattsburgh until I was 5, then moved down state. Irony is I will be attending SUNY Plattsburgh in the fall for college.

      But anyways, USA.

Please, for the love of all things holy, Shop around. See who can get you the best deal. Each branch generally has the same jobs, but they offer different signing bonuses or other benefits like choosing location or the exact job. I know the Army is the only branch that allows you to pick the exact job you want.

          Good advice.

Yeah I was very naive when I joined the Navy. Got $0 as my signing bonus when others got up to $20,000 for doing the same exact job as me. My recruiter probably loved me because I was so dumb and made his job so easy.

I regret not choosing the AF. I actually went to the AF recruiter first but the guy was a douschebag and made me feel really uncomfortable. He wanted me to go to MEPS to do my ASVAB and all that the next day lol.

I have a few friends in the Air Force and they love it. I think the AF has the best quality of life out of any other military branches.
Never considered the AF, and the Navy recruiter had a big booger in his nose the whole time he was pitching the Navy to me. In the end, the Marine Corps recruiter was the sharpest, and the one that made me say "I want to be like this", so voila!

The AF definitely has the best quality of life. When I was stationed @ Camp Fuji we would go to Yokota AFB and get billetting for the weekend. Rooms were like $15 bucks or something, and they were actually the older barracks turned into billetting. Four roommates shared a full kitchen, and had two showers/heads.

By comparison our Marine barracks on Fuji were one man rooms, sharing a head w/ the Marine next door, and our appliances consisted of a tiny fridge in the room and a microwave in the common area.

All of which was probably found at the local DRMO somewhere on Yokosuka lol.

I was actually going to join the Air Force but the Recruiter was out of the office. While me and my buddy were going back to our car the Army recruiter ran outside and grabbed us so were stayed and the rest is History.

In Hindsight I wish I had gone about it differently, I wish I had not chosen Infantry but EOD which i was going to do, but I got sweet talked.

The Coast Guard is barely recruiting, I was talking to a MEPS Recruiter this past weekend and the Syracuse MEPS (which covers over a million people) only took 8 recruits into the Coast Guard. Besides, who wants to go into the Coast Guard, they are barely even in the Military (kidding of course)(or am I)(I am).

I was actually talking about what a cool job it would be to be the dudes who fast rope onto boats and take them over(unless you are doing so into group of people with bats).

I was an army recruiter, and come from an Air Force Family. I was stationed in Hawaii and a childhood friend was stationed there with me, though he was Coast Guard. They seem a little hardcore, like when I would "Get in trouble" I would do some push ups and maybe get a counseling, etc. This dude got accused of hooking up with a married chick and they locked him on the boat for like a month and a half man. He lost weight im like wtf, thats crazy.

My sister just went into the Army, she didn't have the option to shop around as she only has a GED, if she had, I would have pushed her into the Air Force. From my perspective, it has the least "military crap" yet has the same, if not better benefits with the better housing, quality of life, etc.

Yeah they have pretty much locked down recruiting for this year. They are kicking out 1100 people by next year and we only have 40000 total.

LMAO that happens a lot. sounds similar to me. I thought I would see the world also, and go to all these different ports while in the Navy.

Yeah...they sent me that ****-hole Iraq. And I've been to Rhode Island, Illinois, North Carolina, and Virginia.
