Does anybody actually prefer watching sporting events on TV?

Simple question, do any of you guys actually prefer watching your favorite teams/sports on TV than attending the games? I was a season ticket holder for VT football games 2 years ago and last year I missed the deadline so I didn't get tix. -_- Anyway, I watched all the games from home (except I managed to go to the Miami game) in HD and it wasn't so bad.

I didn't tailgate or anything so I automatically saved about 3-4 hours in my day without pre-game activities and post-game traffic. I didn't have to worry about being roasted by the Blacksburg sun or soaked by the Blacksburg monsoons or freeze to death. I got a better view than what I normally would have got standing in the stands. I could actually sit down! And my refrigerator doesn't charge me $3 for a bottle of water.

I was actually on the fence about buying tickets this year. Student tix were $85 thanks to an extra home game and I was tight on cash. I managed to pull it out so I figure I could sell my tickets if I don't want them.

Anybody out there prefer watching from your living room?

Re: Does anybody actually prefer watching sporting events on TV?

For watching the game, I prefer every major sport on tv rather than live, except for Basketball. Watching basketball live actually gives you a much greater understanding of what's happening than tv, while in all other sports you can't even follow everything when watching it live. Who in the stadium knows if the home team converted on the third and inches or if it really was a strike if not for the jumbotrons.

For the experience though, not much compares to going to live sporting events. It's just so much fun: the tailgating, the big cheers during a huge rally, the drinking with thousands of people, not being in the monotony of your living room couch, etc...

Last year was the first time since 06 I missed a LSU home game.

HATED it. IT seemed so tame on TV. I always find a torrent and watch it sunday/monday night, so I would have expected to not notice it, but it was so obvious.

Also, i'm not sure what to do while watching on TV.

TV......less traffic, less money and less morons to deal with. Plus on tv you get to see EVERYTHING. In person you only get to see part of the action when it is actually near the area where you are sitting.

This. 10 years ago it wouldn't have been close but, as I get older I prefer the comfort of my home rather than going to the games. I didn't attend any games last year. The year before, I went to the Bama/LSU game in Baton Rouge and the Saints/GB MNF game in New Orleans. I enjoyed both games but, all the parking, traffic, drunken idiots, etc gets old after awhile.

If it's any consolation, I'm the same way with concerts.

Man I feel u....I mean there's nothing like experiencing games but I get more hyped hearing Musberger, or Nessler, etc. And when u see the intros n stuff on abc, cbs, etc u get so pumped.....at the game u miss all that....and like u said its a lot cheaper....I guess I do like having ppl over n being comfortable most of the time....but it wouldn't matter either way

I dunno. Honestly, there are far more pro's than con's watching the games on TV than in person, but there's just something about being there that is such a blast. I guess I'm sort of neutral.

I haven't gone to enough games in person to tire of them, but I really don't mind watching on TV. I've taken the train to every game also so I didn't have to worry about parking or anything of that sort. Baseball is the sport where I definently prefer being there in person. I'd really love to attend a hockey game sometime soon though and I'm planning on going to another Seahawks game this year when my best friend comes back from Arizona to visit. Hopefully no one spills beer on my dad this time.

I think it can depend on the sport. Even though I would most likely take being there live assuming a good atmosphere and what not; certain sports translate better either live or on television. I think basketball and hockey definitely translate better in person, baseball is neutral and I can't really comment on football because the last time I went to an Eagles game was 2000 and Temple football was so bad for so long.

Football on tv for sure, basketball in person. Baseball is 50/50...good teams are in person, but if you're a fan of the 2010 mariners, tv is the way to go

I love going to sporting events but I do prefer to watch TV at home. I don't have to worry about parking, traffic, buying tickets, dealing with morons. And with TV you can follow the game a lot easier and know what is going on.

The only sport that I love going to the game but don't like watching it on TV is baseball. I love going to baseball games and it is so much better then watching it on TV.

Football or Basketball I like watching it on TV more.

The worst part about going to sporting events is getting back home. The traffic is so ridiculous. Getting out of the parking lot is hell because of the amount of people, let alone the alcohol in their system. Makes me very nervous.

I had a partial season ticket package for the Flyers a few years ago (bought playoff tickets package and they gave us a few games the following year). It got a little old after a while. You gotta leave early and you get home late. On TV you can watch when the action is on and do whatever else when it's not.
