I agree with stewaat and wtf on this. But, because of the media and political correctness, the girl who got punched will get a payday out of this and the cop willl be demonized and possibly be demoted or fired permanately.....which is sad

I wouldn't have minded if he drew his gun out (permitted it was on safety and he didn't fire it). There were multiple people on him, his partner wasn't with him, and he needed some sort of crowd control.
The punch barely nicked her anyway.

Re: Discuss.
Isn't this contradictory though? It seems officers would only pull their weapon out if the situation could potentially warrant using it.
Those in the know can correct me if I'm wrong.Comment

Oh I believe you, I'm not saying he should have done this or if this was legal... I'm just saying that I personally wouldn't have minded it. Typical
As I said I wish it was a black officer punching a white girl so I could say the EXACT same thing about the incident.Comment

Re: Discuss.
Is jay walking that big of deal around there where the school had to get police to enforce it? Had children been getting hit or something? I'd question the school or whoever requested him to be there.
A question for those that say the cop was wrong, in all seriousness, what would have been acceptable to you?Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Re: Discuss.
Exactly. Don't look at the races of the people, that is not the discussion here. The discussion is the actions the officer/subjects took.
Race has no place in this incident/discussion.
I look at the video and don't see a white officer & black girl, I see an officer and a person he's trying to detain.Comment

Re: Discuss.
Officers are public servants. We have an obligation to serve the community. The school requested more attention to jaywalkers, and the request probably went to a captain of the area. The captain relays that down the chain and an officer is assigned to go out there and enforce jaywalking. Is jay walking that big of deal around there where the school had to get police to enforce it? Had children been getting hit or something? I'd question the school or whoever requested him to be there.

The officer is doing what he is told to do. He didn't just wake up and say "Hey I'd like to focus on stopping jaywalkers today". Of course there are bigger fish to fry, but we have to cater to the requests of the public.
In my area we get citizen requests for zone checks all the time. They might go out of town and want their house zone checked. You know what we go do that because they pay taxes and we are public servants. I've had to go to houses and check around the house because people were too afraid to go outside after they heard a sound coming from outside...they thought somebody was out there. Yes I'm serious.
This "oh she was only jaywalking" BS is just that...BS
He did his job and she was blatantly disrespectful. He was probably just going to give her a warning for jaywalking along with the other girls in her group, but this one decided to show off or whatever it is she was doing.
I don't see how a reasonable person does not see this for what it isComment

Re: Discuss.
Well, I believe in "an eye for an eye." The girl pushed him and he retaliated with a punch. Had she punched him first, I would have thought nothing of him punching her back. He should have called for backup if he felt that things were getting too out of control, but I'm sure the guys on the force would have egged him on for letting two females get the best of him.Unless you're in this situation, you don't necessarily know. I've went into situations, that I thought, "Hey, no big deal... No need to get physical" and the woman be all hyped up on stuff. They get dangerous. I'm a fairly good sized guy, but when you get in a group, you want to maintain order, and use the appropriate level of force. He was justified in what he did. He climbed the ladder of force. Officer Presence, Verbal Command, Soft Empty Hand... Punch to the face.Comment

Re: Discuss.
What would you do in the situation?
How can he call for backup when he has both hands full trying to handcuff one person while another assaults him and there is a crowd forming who think it's all a show they need to record to put up on youtube?
To all those saying he's in the wrong, what should he have done to right the situation?Comment

Thank you to the cops out there dealing with this crap. I cant stand how the focus is on the cop and not the people who are the problem.
