After taking a week off I went back to running 3-4 times a week and haven't had the problem since.

When I first started running I told myself I wouldn't get caught up in getting the "right" gear (shoes, clothing etc.) I run about 4 miles every other day and go to about 7 on the weekends. right now I can get in about a 9:45 pace, something I'm working on. The heat has spiked here in NC, making it pretty brutal if I don't run in the early morning. I ran 4 miles on Sunday afternoon and was worn out.

I really do enjoy it though. Right now my challenge is weight loss. I'm noticing loss of weight in my legs and arms. I don't want to be too small there. Just trying to figure out what to do so I can still run and also not get too skinny.
I appreciate the feedback man. I waited two days and went for another 2 mile run yesterday, but this time with a Mueller knee strap. I still felt a wee bit discomfort, but I felt pretty darn good the whole run. It was a little sore the next day, so i'm thinking I may wait until the weekend to go for another run. I'll probably just continue to wear the strap every time I run, because i've heard they are great anyways, even if you don't have any discomfort.

Any recommendations on shoes? I'm leaning towards another pair of Asics or maybe some Brooks...

Try a bunch out and see which ones feel the most comfortable to you. Different brands will feel differently on your feet. Do you have a running shoe specialty store in your neighborhood? If so, they should have a treadmill in the store where you can get your gait analyzed and that will help give you (and the employee) a better idea of what shoe would be right for you.

Definitely good advice. The only thing I can add is that sometimes shoes will feel different once they're broken in my experience. I am partial to Brooks and when I first try them on the arch support feels funny, but once they're broken in they're great. A few years back I bought a pair of Nikes that felt great in the store but once I started running on them I had a lot of pain

Another brand to look at is mizuno. I got a pair about a year ago and loved them. I'm going brain dead right now and can't remember the name though.

I definitely need to get back to running soon and will. I need a new pair of running shoes I've been using the same ones since my Jr year in high school. Ran track, man I miss that sport but, I miss just taking the trips with teammates even more.

Anyways they are pretty worn out, still goin' strong but, it's gettin' about that time. Has anyone bought those new Reebok Realflex shoes? I've been looking into getting a pair for running.

Picked them up today...Picture doesn't do them justice, they are slick!

10k tomorrow and last half-marathon of the summer is next week...Hoping to post another PR (Under 1:53:18) but a lot of that will depend on the weather.

I'm starting to get into running again. I got into it a few years ago (completely casual, 1-2 miles 4-5x a week) until my knees started to wear down on me, then I had to give it up for a while because the bum knees kept coming back even after weeks of rest.

I decided to sign up for my first 5k last month and ended up doing 31:55 with no training prior, which is unimpressive but pretty good for me. I am not a distance runner or a speed runner at all. I usually have to take a break after the first 1.5 mile, and I can just barely do a mile in under 10 minutes. I have trouble breathing due to a past smoking addiction, and my heart rate is all jacked up from a past energy drink obsession. I'm slowly trying to get better there though.

Right now I do a 5k every other day. Pace is still crap, about 10-11 minutes a mile, but I'm slowly working my way up there. I have asics Gel-Kushon 2's and they are super comfortable. I used to run in New Balances and Nike (bball shoes... bad idea), but I'll be sticking to asics now.

Those Asics are sweet...Unfortunately I am stuck with the Kayanos because I need a lot of support.

As for me, half-marathon this Sunday which is looking to have a great weather (Around 65 degrees, which is amazing because it was 90 yesterday). Hoping to get a new PR around 1:52:XX

Not sure if this is entirely related to your thread, to be honest I haven't read through the entire thing.

I coach Track and Field, this season (that juts ended) was my fourth as a coach. I didn't run in High School, I threw Shot and Disc, and those are the events I coach now, though I am a head coach on the team too, that title pretty much only pertains to paperwork and stat entry/meet entry/online roster management.

At the California State meet a girl set a national record in the 800 (2 laps, or a half mile), she ran it in 2:01. Not sure how fast you guys have ever ran a half mile but its a pretty tough race, was pretty fun to watch.

Nice, gets me fired up to see! I'm not officially training for a marathon until August but I'm already looking forward to it.

I just ordered these. Only running shoes I train in:
