I understand that, I went through the Navy boot camp and the mentality thing was tough for me. To put it quite simply, I pretty much turned off my brain for 2 months and did what I was told. I stayed under the radar because of this and made it through pretty easily.

Congrats on Joining. Here are a couple tips:

In Basic Training, unless you plan on being the best soldier there, don't volunteer for anything. Stay Completely under the radar. If you Keep your mouth shut and don't fall out on runs, you will be made in the shade.

When you get to your unit, forget everything I said about Basic. Be overly respectful, be ready to learn, Volunteer for everything, and just remember: as a private, you are nothing. The Veteran soldiers will teach you everything you need to learn, Even if they are not a NCO, you will behoove yourself by being respectful and listening. If you keep that in mind, you will do fine.
This is very, very important. Under no circumstance you want to bring attention to yourself unless you're willing to take what will be served to you.

Should've joined the Marine Corps. ...nah I'm just playing...we need soldiers too, they keep the Marine Corps running strong

Best of luck to you. Always sound off, DO NOT FALL OUT ON RUNS (as Cusefan stated), and know your drill (I know this is more of a focus in the Marine Corps, but it builds discipline nonetheless).

You would be amazed in bootcamp how many people come in way out of shape and literally pass out on those 3k and 5k runs. My 1st 5k run I didn't fall out, I just got gassed and started walking saying F it LMAO.

Mainly because my boot camp base was Ft. Knox and Ft. knox is a mountainous area, full of hills so it wasn't like we were running on flat level ground. Some of those hills on ft. knox have 4% and 7% grades.

Nope your not. Heck you can't use anything that has vitamins or alcohol in it at all. So your mouthwash has to be alcohol free too, along with your shaving gel. I remember one time this dude had a heart attack on one of our 3k runs. It was 91 degrees that night and dude just dropped to the pavement.

Turned out he had a heart murmur that he never knew about, and was quickly discharged.

It could be that. More often it refers to slowing down, stopping or walking. Basically anything that causes you to fall out of the formation. I fell out a couple times in the early going, it wasn't too bad. Drill Seargents vary. I even did worse than falling out when I got to my first duty station but it worked out pretty well, though 1st Seargents vary as well.

Congrats on enlisting RipCity. Don't worry about the scary stuff you hear. It's not so bad being on DS' radars, depending on why you're there. Getting into trouble isn't so bad, and sometimes it's fun even. Just enjoy yourself man, you're about to have some of the best times you will ever have, with some of the best friends you will ever meet. It's going to be a GREAT experience so soak it in. Don't even get me started on AIT.

                        Again, congrats Pvt. Joe Snuffy.

Boot camp toughness depends soley on your drill instructors. For me, all the drill instructors at the company I was assigned to were army rangers. So were did EVERYTHING, the ranger way. Ranger push ups, ranger pull ups, ranger runs. Heck even when it came to the shooting range we had to do it the ranger way.

And our punishments were done the ranger way. Like if we pissed them off, they use to take us to this area where it was nothing but sharp small crushed rocks on the ground and made us do ranger push ups on there. I am telling you now, rocks after sitting out in the sun for most of the day gets HOT. So needless to say those sharp rocks cut our hands and that heat burnt our hands.

When it came to the gas chamber, we had to do it the ranger way, which meant no gas masks on at all and you had to stay in there 2 minutes reciting the ranger creed in there.

I made up a little story for the Military usage of the word "behoove". You see, way back when, a NCO was helping his child study for school. They were learning obscure SAT words, this is when Behoove came up. Since this particular NCO was not very smart he used the SAT word to make himself sound smart. Unfortunately, it backfired as he did not use it in the correct form. So to make fun of him, everyone in the US military started using the word Behoove to make fun of this NCO.

Sounds like it could be true:shrug:

Here are some more Helpful tips:

                                1. When standing in the Position of Attention, do not lock your legs up.

                                2. When you see some stupid A** fall on face when you are at attention, try not to laugh

                                3. The Cake is a lie.

                                4. When you get your first Pass, Fight the urge to pig out, you will regret it.

                                5. When you get your second pass, do not get a hooker.

                                6. Since you are basically going to be a glorified RTO, I would start studying the Phonetic Alphabet. It also cannot hurt to look into RTO "buzz words"

                                7. Do not call Big Drill "sir"

                                8. Do not under any circumstances bring anything worth any value to you. Have your family or friends bring you your stuff when you graduate. Just remember, there is only one thief in the military, everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back.

                                9. Do not buy any of that "hooah" army crap they will try to sell. Just like a new kid at college, scum will try and put you in debt. One person sticks out in my mind as a glaring example of being stupid, this kid Graduates Basic Training, goes to the mall in Columbus, buys a $3,000 necklace and a big a** tattoo of the of the Sand Hill(fort Benning) combat patch. You will generally look like a ****** if you get a military tattoo and the context you got it in was all wrong...

                                10. Do not get used to Basic Training, it will be over as fast as it started. When you are at AIT, study and take notes. Fight the urge to goof off, this is the building block of your Military career(if you so choose). When you get to your unit, you will most likely be treated like crap. The good news is this only lasts as long as you are the FNG.

                                11. Last but not least... Leave your Basic Training Stories at Basic training. When you get to your unit and they ask you where you went, do not say Fort Knox, give them your basic Training unit. Also, Do not buy that Basic Training Clothe they will try and sell. Generally it looks extremely stupid and people will def. make fun of you for wearing it.
