Ha, we all had those stories too, about how the recruiter fooled us, especially when I got to my first duty station. Later on though, those stories were kinda true.

Really, it's not exactly a vacation but you'd be surprised. I guess it's as fun as you want it to be. I had lots of fun lol. I look back on my time in military, all of it, as a highlight. Maybe I just got lucky though.

For any job i ever had, the Army had a insane amount of Vacation days, looking back, i wonder how we even got any work done.

You are absolutely right though, the military is what you make of it. I look back with very fond memories, I remember the first day me and my 3 best friends met, I also remember when one died, and the time where we all got separated to different units. I can guarantee you this much, you will have some of the best times of your life, but also some of the worst...

Still, i wouldn't trade it for anything....

Sounds like the Marine Corps "Anymouse" drop box. Where an NCO was told to create an "Anonymous" drop box for questions/concerns of things that can be changed w/in the command. Well...the NCO didn't know how to spell "Anonymouse", and spray painted "Anymouse" on old ammo cans used to collect the comment cards.

Man...the military was a great time. Sure there is your fairshare of heartache and discontent over certain things (the hurry up and wait crap always got on my nerves), but looking back it was one of the greatest times of my life.

I still work with and for the Marine Corps on Quantico, and around 1500 see the Marines leaving for PT or on a run and think to myself: They will finish their PT, go home, chill, and I'm still here at work for at least another hour and a half.

If Ripcity can get it, Goldbond medicated Powder(its a lifesaver)...

Here are some more Helpful tips:

                        1. When standing in the Position of Attention, do not lock your legs up.

                        2. When you see some stupid A** fall on face when you are at attention, try not to laugh

                        3. The Cake is a lie.

                        4. When you get your first Pass, Fight the urge to pig out, you will regret it.

                        5. When you get your second pass, do not get a hooker.

                        6. Since you are basically going to be a glorified RTO, I would start studying the Phonetic Alphabet. It also cannot hurt to look into RTO "buzz words"

                        7. Do not call Big Drill "sir"

                        8. Do not under any circumstances bring anything worth any value to you. Have your family or friends bring you your stuff when you graduate. Just remember, there is only one thief in the military, everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back.

                        9. Do not buy any of that "hooah" army crap they will try to sell. Just like a new kid at college, scum will try and put you in debt. One person sticks out in my mind as a glaring example of being stupid, this kid Graduates Basic Training, goes to the mall in Columbus, buys a $3,000 necklace and a big a** tattoo of the of the Sand Hill(fort Benning) combat patch. You will generally look like a ****** if you get a military tattoo and the context you got it in was all wrong...

                        10. Do not get used to Basic Training, it will be over as fast as it started. When you are at AIT, study and take notes. Fight the urge to goof off, this is the building block of your Military career(if you so choose). When you get to your unit, you will most likely be treated like crap. The good news is this only lasts as long as you are the FNG.

                        11. Last but not least... Leave your Basic Training Stories at Basic training. When you get to your unit and they ask you where you went, do not say Fort Knox, give them your basic Training unit. Also, Do not buy that Basic Training Clothe they will try and sell. Generally it looks extremely stupid and people will def. make fun of you for wearing it.
I bought on of the USAF jackets with my training unit and a Big Eagle on the back. Used to wear it at Tech School (AIT) and thought I was cool as the day was long. That lasted until I got to my duty station. It made me look like a rook and got made fun of. It ended up getting packed away for the next 15 years. BTW, really good advice! You really soaked it all in. USAF ain't all that different, save the physical junk. I have to admit, I respect the army for getting their hands dirty. We were the glamour boys!

Congrats PRC, and may you be protected in all your duties. It's a real different world and real war now. I didn't have to deal with all of that. God Bless!

A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

I do want to add one thing, and this is coming from personal experience. 13F(fire support specialist)as some of you probably know, is basically a Recon unit that calls in Artillery. Problem is, with todays wars, Artillery is just not being used for the most part. Basically the ROE has restricted Artillery crews from doing their job, be prepared to be a infantrymen

Then again you might get lucky and be put in a Stryker unit, then you may get to do your job.
