Re: Please pray for our son...

Thanks again, guys! REALLY appreciate it, and my words fall well short of my thanks. We've put updates out through our Facebook friends and our church's email prayer list. The response we've received is humbling...

          Another update:

My wife and I got home from the hospital not long ago. Jaret is being moved from the pediatric ICU to a normal room. They will keep him for 24-hour observation. We're hopeful to get home on Friday.

He spoke with us and has made a remarkable recovery. The doctors are quite stunned by this because when we left the hospital at 3:30 am he was on a breathing machine and was showing no responsiveness. By 8:30 am he showed signs of improvement and was able to communicate and they got him up to walk. We were dumbfounded...

He also has a left shoulder separation... When I asked him what happened, he said, "Dad, I got creamed..." He was playing volleyball and the ball rolled over into a soccer game. As he picked up the ball, another kid didn't see him and drilled him moving full speed. He was in a vulnerable position and took a very traumatic hit. But he's a tough kid... He had his sense of humor about him as I asked him about a girl I heard he liked...when I asked her name, he said, "Dad, I got hit so hard I can't remember..." His mother was thankful for this news.

Guys, give your kids a hug. News can change on a dime. Only an hour earlier our youth minister had called me and said Jaret wanted to be baptized this Sunday and that I would get to do that. An hour later I got the terrible news. There is nothing like being 2 hours away from your kid, listening to paramedics yelling your sons name and failing to get him to respond. There was nothing I could do and I never felt so helpless...

I am a very strong person, probably a bit "stoic" some would say. I don't get rattled easy but I knew I needed to stay strong for my wife, who was VERY emotional over this. We also have 3 other children and we live in Florida. My parents live in Ohio and my wife's in Indiana, so we have no one to help us. But we pull together and our faith gets us through. Our church family was a tremendous support....the church camp coordinator even came to the hospital today. Our youth minister and his 8-month pregnant wife stayed at the hospital with us all night. We don't deserve that kind of love, but people can be truly amazing in those times.

You've never seen anything until you see your son hooked up to a breathing machine and are told that he might be fighting for his life. I hadn't seen him since Sunday when he left for camp. But as I told my wife, he knows he's loved by a LOT of people. He's a great kid - popular, athletic, good looking, but mostly he cares for others and loves God. I couldn't be more proud of him. The fear of losing that was a pain that I dealt with privately last night after my wife and kids finally got to bed.

But I am most grateful for this news and I want to thank you guys. Sorry that I've rambled on, but I want you to know that when someone says they will pray for you and does, the appreciation we have for that can't be put into words... Thanks!

I just saw this and I am so glad he is doing better and seems like he will be okay.

Just reading your posts about the situation really hit me hard. I couldn't imagine going through something like that and I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to be the strong one.

                  Keep us updated.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
