    Baltimore War Zone

In over a week Baltimore has had 16 people shot and 7 murdered throughout the city. Place is getting crazy around here.

12 people were shot within a 24 hour period last Saturday and Sunday.

Last night me and my buddy drove to the 7-11 4 blocks away from my house and for the first time living here I was actually scared to wait outside in my car.

As I'm typing this up now I can see Ambulence lights and police sirens through my window.

Baltimore is a _____ hole. Lemme guess...most the violence is between males 20 yrs old or younger. I won't forget just 3 yrs ago when my wife and I spent a long weekend in Baltimore, went to the inner harbor, and there were these kids 12-14 yrs old cussing and acting a fool in completely ignorant fashion. Then on the way to the hotel there were two seperate couples fighting in the street and carrying on. My wife, who's black, was left saying "Black people in Baltimore are crazy".

It's strange how stuff like this snowballs.

I spent a year in Richmond going to college and the year I was there they were in the running for Murder capitol of the world. Area's around VCU had chalk outlines up like they were an Art project and the news keep a flashing score/total on the screen during the full broadcast.

It was kind of surreal. You got the impression that folks were rooting for more murders and you'd meet cats who got all A's for a semester becuse their roomate got stabbed to death walking to 7-11 at 7 pm.

I can't say I got "scared" but my head was on a swivel.

You should seriously consider moving. I just recently moved from my old apartment complex after someone shot up the club house and left 10 wounded and one dead.

Fifty-two people were shot, eight of them being killed, in Chicago last weekend.

The summer does weird things to people. I know a few summers ago here in Toronto we had gangs and such shooting each other up senselessly and you had folks getting gunned down in front of churches and such.

The violence that is meted out by people in their early 20s makes me sick and almost lose hope for the future.

Summer time turf wars, that is all it is. When summer starts or sometimes spring, you will ALWAYS see a spike in murders in major inner cities because you got drug dealers trying to set up their spot for the rest of the year. And all drug dealers know where the most drug addicts are at and they all be fighting to be as close as possible to the center of a drug addict prone neighborhood.

While growing up in chicago, this was the norm, happened every year. After a week or 2, the dust will settle and one gang would hold that spot for the rest of the year. Also got to keep in mind, beginning of spring and summer is also the time when newer gang members get jumped in and they out to prove themselves as well.

Not always, but usually the ones that are getting killed are the ones that did some killings earlier, or shooting. Here in Richmond there are a lot of turf wars going on. But the people that get killed seem to be gang bangers themselves. I would still be scared to go down there and to seat in my car. I had to go to Richmond Kaiser last night. Going home in the dark was a little uneasy.

I asked one of my students why do you guys do all this shooting during the summer. He said they get bored. I was shocked, but he was honest. They get bored, so they think it is a good time to shoot up someone that shot at them earlier. It is a wild world in the hood.

The shootings all had to do with an FBI sting/raid.

That is good. We had some FBI stings here with some of these street gangs. It does help a little.

It will help in the short term but not the long term. FBI been doing raids on chicago street gangs since the 70s and the gangs there are still going on strong. Hell damn near every chicago gang founder been locked up since the 70s & 80s.

Didn't make a dent because once you arrest one head, another one will step up to take his place. It is not until people get rid of drug addicts and sex addicts will gangs ever go away.

Even in Vermont they have gangs, but no where as near as large, violent or powerful as the ones in Chicago though.

Wow, I know I shouldn't be shocked but it just blows my mind that kids who are bored think that killing other people will relieve said boredom. Indeed, it's a wild world in the hood.

We've had some police raids in drug/gang infested neighborhoods and from what I hear said neighborhoods are a lot better these days. It isn't always a long term solution but at least it upsets and disperses some of the unwanted activity.

I remember the year in Philly that there were more murders than New York City; not just a higher rate but a higher total number. It got crazy, a cop got shot around my high school and things were on lockdown for a couple hours.
