No place in the United States has ever been close to the murder capital of the world.

Even in North America no US city is even competing with Juarez. Throw in just about any major city in Columbia, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, and it's not even close.

Now, Mexico is probably about the extent of record keeping that you'll find as warlords generally don't spend their time tallying bodies and releasing reports to the international media. For example, New Orleans may have one of the highest reported murder rates in the world, but that's really only because the vast majority of high crime countries don't report or don't report accurately.

Chicago is a big city and they don't have high murder rates. For the most part, big cities are only dangerous in rap songs and movie films. Of the million plus population cities in the US, only Philly has a remotely high murder rate, and it's dwarfed by mid level and small cities.

Last night me and my buddy drove to the 7-11 4 blocks away from my house and for the first time living here I was actually scared to wait outside in my car.

As I'm typing this up now I can see Ambulence lights and police sirens through my window.

From my knowledge, they let most of them out in May/June and round most of them back up in September on new charges.

Also for the ones who actually show up at school from time to time, since school is out, they have more time to be bored.

I agree. I have lived on the east coast for about 3 1/2 years now and hate it. Especially being here in Portsmouth, Virginia right now. This place is a **** hole.

Amen. The gangs here are a nuisance more than a danger. They do things like spray paint or write stuff on public property. There are maybe three or four murders in town in a bad year, and maybe one is related to drug deals or gangs.

To the OP. It sucks that you have to live in fear in your own city. The only thing you can do is not put yourself in bad positions and be aware of your surroundings. If you do that, you should be fine.

Last night right after midnight gun shots went off right inside the main tourist destination in Baltimore by Pratt Street Pavalion and Word Trade Center.

The reason for the shooting from Police "I felt like killing someone"

                    17 year olds

I work with some Baltimore Cops and I asked one if we should look forward to another weekend worth of shootings and he got fired up talking about it and telling me that to be careful because the Cops aren't taking any joking around, you do one dumb thing your going to get arrested.

He told me that a pregnant girl was shot and killed one street from my house last night.

Area's around VCU had chalk outlines up like they were an Art project and the news keep a flashing score/total on the screen during the full broadcast.

It was kind of surreal. You got the impression that folks were rooting for more murders and you'd meet cats who got all A's for a semester becuse their roomate got stabbed to death walking to 7-11 at 7 pm.

I can't say I got "scared" but my head was on a swivel.
VCU, nor any school for that matter, gives out A's if your roommate dies. That's an urban legend.

As for the city, we've really cleaned up since you left. Shockoe Bottom still has the occasional shooting... especially when Chris Brown comes into town, but otherwise, Richmond really has cleaned itself up.

The MCV program would seem like an even worse fit.

Not sure what it's like now but the same applied to the high suicide rate at VCU...between the MCV and the AFO programs you just felt the stress. add in the the layer of "alternative" lifestyles that wasn't quite as cool back then...bad times.

There are a variety of rumors surrounding higher education bereavement policies that affect students' grades.

Although many schools will offer some sort of bereavement consideration under exceptional circumstances, no college or university in the United States has a policy awarding a 4.0 average (or anything else) to a student whose roommate dies.
