Re: How to Ride a Bike
No need to feel embarrassed......for I too never learned how to ride a bike. I instead at the age of 9 learned to drive cars on the west side of chicago.Comment

Re: How to Ride a Bike
My next door neighbor's nephew was 2 or 3 years younger than me, and I saw him zooming around with no training wheels, so I wanted to learn.
I started out by myself. I had a tiny grass hill near my house and just tried to use it to get enough momentum. When that didn't work, I went to my neighbor (the one with the nephew) and asked him if he'd teach me. He just held on to the back of my bike seat while I pedaled. He'd let go and catch me before I fell. Gradually, he let go for longer and longer until I could ride on my own.
Funny story--when my dad came home from work that day, I wanted to show him that I could ride a two-wheelers. So, I got to the top of my yard and got ready. We had about 5 acres at the time and the yard gradually slanted down from the house to the wooded area behind the house. It was all grass in a space about 30 yards wide... expect for one tree... one skinny tree in the middle of a yard. All I had to do was avoid the tree, and I could ride down toward the wooded area, turn a little, and coast to a stop. Nope. I hit that effin tree. lol... I hit dead on with my front tire and did a front flip and landed on my head. I was fine. It was just funny.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment

Start off with the training feels to get a feel for it, and slowly you'll get more comfortable. That's really all there is to say.Comment

Re: How to Ride a Bike
this can't be a real question. I hope you are 6. If not, you may have missed your chance. I would just give it a trial an error shot. Start pedaling and hope for the best. If you fall, get back up, pedal again, and make sure to steer the handle bars this time. Good luck!Comment

Re: How to Ride a Bike
It's not set in stone on how to ride a bike, it's basically something you have to experience. You have to just get on a bike and make it a goal to be able to ride the bike by the end of the day no matter how many times you hit the ground.Comment

Re: How to Ride a Bike
I was taught on the road and was wobbly as all hell. Eventually I fell over and skinned my knee up something fierce...Oh and I nearly got ran over by a couple cars. Luckily that didn't deter me and I got a hang of it. I don't think one can really teach someone how to ride a bike through text. It's one of those things where you have to physically do it through trial and error.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: How to Ride a Bike
I remember my dad trying to help me learn to ride a bike on the playground of my elementary school when I was 8 or 9. Unfortunately, I've always had poor balance and could never quite get the hang of it and eventually gave up. My bike sat unused in our basement for years until we finally got rid of it.
Fast forward to the summer after I graduated high school. I was at my aunt and uncles cabin and my uncle was cleaning out their large shed and had taken a few bikes out. Well, I got on one of the bikes and started messing around in the grassy field across from their cabin and the next thing I knew I was riding around the field with no trouble at all. I think the bike was actually my aunts and it had the thin tires meant for speed riding on pavement not in a bumpy field.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII
