My dog just died.
12 year old wienerdog who went through just about every thing possible, including cancer. She has been doing very badly recently, including not walking and peeing all over so my family decided it was time to put her down.

Re: My dog just died.
Much condolences my man. It may seem silly, but definitely give yourself time to grieve. People may say "it's just a dog" but it's 12 years of memories and good times that simply can't be shelved, so do what you need to do. My lil' pup had a bout with a serious infection a couple weeks back and it really made me think about how much I would have missed her if she did pass on. Luckily, she made it through, but now I don't take her for granted anymore.
On the positive side, when and if you're ready you can always bring in a new dog into your life. I'd suggest going the route of a shelter dog; I mean, you give them a new lease on life and they give you the love and adoration for being their savior and new friend. My fiance & I have 2 little mongrels we saved from there and while it was tough going at first, they opened up in time & are well behaved and loving their new lease on life; don't know what I'd do without those little monsters. -

Re: My dog just died.
I don't know if that's childish or not, but that alone time really helped me with just being able to let my emotions out and everything.
As for getting another dog...man, I don't know if I can do that. This was like my sister dying, it was absolutely HORRIBLE. Cannot imagine what it will feel like if it was basically my child.
I have to think about that for a while. Still to early to even really consider it.Too Old To Game Club

Re: My dog just died.
take some time to greive, it's a tough thing, especially with guys. My old dog was found cowering in an overturned dumpster during a bad bad storm about 2 weeks after I was born. That dog was so protective of me, he wouldn't even let my parents near my crib at times. The things that dog lived though.....getting ramped off of by a dirtbike (which our neighbor still picks on us about), getting ran over by a minivan (and hanging on by a thread, his entire foot was smashed and losing blood quickly) and ever near drowning. When he died about 4 years, it impacted out family hard.
I also do not recommend ever taking your pet to get put down unless you absolutely have to do it and nobody else will take it. It was, simply tragic.
So I feel ya dude. And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: My dog just died.
Sorry to hear. We just saved a puppy that had no home about a month ago. She is the sweetest thing. I have never had a puppy before and I am already attached to her. I worry about her every night and really don't know what I am going to do without her.
I also have a cat that is two year younger than me and has been with our family its whole life. When it passes my whole family will just be depressed for awhile. This cat is basically my brother.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Real sorry to hear about this. I can only imagine how tough it is. I know when the time comes I'll have to deal with this and it's going to be rough. I tear up just thinking about it. I could list a million cliches but you'll hear them all. Sorry for your loss and just do the best you can.Comment

Re: My dog just died.
She was ready to go, so it was an easy decision. By the time they got into the room and gave her the injection, she collapsed and just went off, no comatose state or anything.
I'm glad she didn't suffer and she didn't have to die in a tragic event, and that's all I can ask for. Nothing last forever in this life so gotta make it count when we can.
Thanks for everything guys. I truly appreciate it. People who don't have pets just cannot understand what it is like to lose one...so it might sound weird that I'd cry over an animal, but I can admit that I am.Too Old To Game Club

Re: My dog just died.
Sorry to hear. We had to put my dog down the summer before my Senior year of High School. That was back in 2003. We think she got some kind of cancer and went downhill from there. I remember the last time I went outside to see her. She was so weak and just layed there, didn't even get up to drink the milk I had taken to her. I cried my eyes out as I said my good byes. I couldn't handle going the next day to have her put down, my Dad took her. It was terrible. She had wandered up to us when I was 7 years old so we had were quite a long time. I know it's hard and very painful. Hope things get better for you soon."The best thing about being a football player at Alabama...winning...winning." -Mark Barron

Re: My dog just died.
Sorry to hear this.
I've got tears in my eyes just thinking back a few months ago when I had to put my best girl Smokey to sleep.
14 years is a lot of memories and every day I think of something about her.
I really lost my best friend there.
Hang tough.
What was his/her name?
