I've heard of it, but only because of the movie Back to the Future. I think it's more of an old time phrase than a geographical one.

Re: The future of parking?
I was thinking about this today, Compared to a traditional parking Garage under a building, these would not be a prefered choice for terrorism. The reason is quite simple, though there are less people walking around your vehicle, you cannot choose where your car goes so you would not be able to park near a support beam.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: The future of parking?
What happens if 10 minutes after you park you realize you left your phone/wallet/whatever in the car? It's not like you can run out and grab it...not sure I'd like this set up."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: The future of parking?
I like it! Not sure why so many are against it, it's like you're allergic to change lol. jk.
I actually do think it's a great idea though, and a city like toronto could desperately use it.
Any argument made against it has a counter too. The forgetting thing for example - I'd be pissed when I get to street level and realize I forgot something too, and it would actually potentially take longer to get to my car than this thing.
Terrorism - a) what are the odds, especially considering where you live? b) in a standard parking garage you're limited in your choice by the volume of cars already there c) many garages have valet as well making your preference redundant as well.
Cost - I dont think the cost would be too outrageous and it maximizes the available space. It doesn't waste as much space and seems like it uses less which requires less construction.
power outage - ?...how often does that happen? It doesn't happen very often and when it does it doesn't last very long. The downtown city core of toronto had it once during the infamous blackout the took out NYC and TDot. lets say you needed to take something using electricity just to get to your car, well you couldn't anyway.
I think the main thing to me is it looks like a solution to a problem.
