When I was young (around 3-4), I tripped and fell into a bucket of scalding hot water at the horse race track. Just my right arm went in the bucket, but when they peeled my long sleeve shirt off, my skin came with it. Still have bubbly scars up my right arm to this day. It's a real chick magnet, let me tell you.

My little brother, when he was maybe 3-4 dumped an entire container of egg drop soup on himself. Ruined my dinner and burned all the skin on his chest pretty bad.

I'm having sympathy pains for your little bro. I watch my 3-year old daughter like a hawk, b/c the last thing I want is for a girl to have to go through her young years with an ugly as$ scar like I did.

          Re: Your gruesome injury stories..

I'm 25 now, and I don't know if any of these are considered "gruesome" but oh well.

          ---

I did the same as the OP. At some point in my past (10+ years ago), I had two of the LJN WWF wrestling rings for my figures. For some reason, one was under a small pile of clothes for some reason, and when I went in my room to get some laundry and stepped on that pile and caught my big toenail on the side of the upside-down ring and ripped it 85% off...I had to do the other 15% myself later. It grew back pretty quickly and aside from it being a little crooked, you'd never know.

          ---

When I was 15, I was playing football with my younger brother in the house during halftime of a Bears game. We had an old mattress & boxspring that was going to be trashed, so we used it as the endzone. I snap the ball, toss it up to myself, go for the TD...and my legs get caught up with my brother and I go falling into the vacuum cleaner. It was one that the entire front piece popped off to access the bag, and when I went down, I put my hands out to brace myself, which hit the bottom of that piece, and popped it out right into my forehead. Six stitches later, and it's all good. I apparently cut thru all but two layers of nerves, so that's cool. We stopped the bleeding at home and I just looked at it in the vanity mirror in the car on the way to the hospital.

          ---

We had some leaking in our business' roof last winter, and because it was nothing that could be fixed until warm weather, I went up to angle a piece of wood to cover the hole for a temporary fix. (Side note: My fix worked until we got it fixed for real) It's all flat roofs, but they aren't level. The roof that I had to get to is the highest, being about 5 feet above the others...so I set the wood up there and had my ladder leaned up against the wall...climbing, climbing...ready to step off, and the ladder slips out from under me and I fall down on it. I got up immediately from the adrenaline, said about 50,000 four letter words, then used a milk crate to prop myself up and slid on my belly over to the roof to set up the wood.

My arm was sore because I landed somewhat on my side, but that cleared up within the week. At the time, it was a pretty awesome yellow/purple bruise. Although, I can still feel something in the area if I bump it at the right angle. My leg was pretty swollen, but most of it went down within a week. I say "most" because it's still slightly swollen...I can also still feel a small bump where the main impact was. On the lower end of my shin, it'll still feel sore, almost bruise-like...but it is what it is. I don't know how to phrase this, but I always say it never felt like any "structural" damage, so I never got it checked out by a doctor. Also contributing is that I don't have insurance. I'll get it checked out at some point, but it doesn't have an effect on my everyday life, so I haven't been too worried about it.

That sucks Jdurg! Hope it all heals well for you.

That scope stuff sounded awesome though...I'd love to have that done on my hand if I ever injure myself lol

This isn't gruesome as much as it is stupid.

I broke my finger crumping in my kitchen this week. I flung my arm out and my finger hit the granite counter. The granite counter won decisively....

2 years ago i was in my first practice for the basketball team. there was this 6'7 dude that i was trying to cover (i am barely 6'0) and i tried to under cut him to tip a pass away, only my left foot landed on his and all of my weight went on that ankle and twisted it horribly. i heard a crack, and the pain was almost unbearable.. it literally brought tears to my eyes (not crying)

went to the emergency room (where i took these pics) and got xrays which were negative. the doctor said that i basically ****** up my ankle REALLY bad as in tearing a bunch of ligaments (the snap i heard and felt was the ligaments tearing)

needless to say i was on crutches for the next 2 weeks before i could even put any real pressure on it and then walking around in an air cast for another week

I did something similar in HS to that. I rolled my ankle and had a hairline fracture in my foot.

Earlier this year my son was pushing around a horse on wheels and got my ankle between the blunt front of the horse and the couch. I ended up messing up the ligaments in my foot and my achilles tendon. I still have foot pain 3 months later.

yea, 5 months after that i did almost the same exact thing to the same exact ankle playing baseball (i was going back to first on a pickoff and my foot got caught on the base while my body kept going) and, although it was almost the same exact injury, there was much less pain. but i was on crutches for a couple weeks with an air cast and all that again. my left ankle is so weak and so prone to getting sprained now.. i twisted it again in the fall of that year (first one in december, 2nd on in may) but no sprain

I have had only one major injury and that was when I fractured my left ankle. I jumped over a stair and landed wrong which caused me to injure it. To this day, you can see which ankle I injured as one is bigger than the other. I am going to eventually need surgery to correct it because my feet dont go straight when I walk. One foot does. The other goes sideways so I walk with a bit of a limp.

I also have a trick right knee. Every so often, It dislocates for some reason. I have to put up with feeling shockwaves of pain when I move it a certain way after it dislocates.
