Choose: Which pro athlete would you be?

    If you had the choice...

    A) Pro basketball player
    B) Pro baseball player
    C) Pro football player
    D) Pro hockey player
    E) Pro golfer
    F) Other (type it in)

For me, I'm going with pro baseball player - either a closer or starting pitcher.

Basketball? It's my best sport without question, but I don't always enjoy playing. I don't like the NBA at all anymore really.

Football? I'd love it, but I'd love playing with my kids after retirement more. Football is hell on your body. I worked with an 11-year NFL vet who won two SB rings and at 45, his body is completely shot. His knees would give out on him all the time. Plus, you don't have the guaranteed contracts.

Hockey... No. I don't even follow it.

Golfer? I can't golf to save my life, though this was my second choice. I just think it would be a nice life.

I chose baseball because I love it. There's just something special about the game. I hope my son grows up to love it, too. The ballparks, the concessions, the smells, the uniforms, the weather... Just being outside. It's the purest game on the planet when it's right. I don't follow the MLB all that closely anymore but that has never taken away from my love of the game. Plus, you got the guaranteed contracts and the wear and tear on your body is not as bad as other sports.

Of course, in all the above sports, the travel and time away from family would be brutal...

    How about you guys?

I absolutely love football and getting paid to do it would be unreal. But the life of a pro golfer is great. It's the only one listed which leaves you solely accountable for your success or failure. You're in control! Added to that, playing golf is an art, and the ability to travel the world and earn loads is more exciting than playing in the same stadium every week.

With that said, it's a lonely sport if you're not winning. It can't compare to the feeling of being part of a football team, a family. Whilst it takes its toll on your body, it's worth it.

Mine would be baseball. I love baseball and it has always been my fav to play. I would pick either a pitcher or 2B/SS. If I couldnt do baseball then I would pick Soccer.
      MLB: Texas Rangers
      Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
      NCAA: SMU, UTA
      NFL: Dallas Cowboys
      NHL: Dallas Stars
      NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Golf. Longer career, you don't have to worry about teammates, and for the most part you can live a fairly normal life outside of the game. Meaning, you can go unnoticed for the most part while in public.

Same here even though I don't care for the sport. While I'd love to play football as a pro, I still want to be able to walk when I'm 40, hell, I'd still want to be able to walk in-season!

                Golf by far

Most longevity, least stressful as it's not a team game, and little if any impact on your body compared to the rest.

Assuming I wouldn't be Tiger Woods good, I could live a much better life golfing than in basketball or such where you're recognizable and everyone in your city feels like you owe them.

Golf and it's not even close. It would help me stay active, while not killing my body. If I was the top golfer I would be one of the highest paid athletes in the world, but even if I was average I would still be raking in the dough. I wouldn't have to put supplement after supplement into my body just in able to compete.

And when I'm done with my PGA career I can continue to play pro golf on the Champions tour. What other sport has a league specifically designed for older players that fans actually care about to an extent?

Golfer for the lifestyle, but if I had the ability to join any team I wanted to in any sport and play my entire career with that same team...hands down I would want to be a professional baseball player for the Red Sox.

                      Golf

in that order. I understand that the 1st 2 have more pressure than the golf, but I mean I would like for my name to be noted.

Golf would be my choice as well. For the reasons others have listed as well as the fact that it's really the only sport you can play for fun when not competing or after retiring.

You can't play a recreational game of the other sports without getting together other pros (and exhibition games suck in Football/Hockey because they are physical sports.) What's a basketball player going to do, go own the guys at the gym? No, but a golfer can play with your average player and still have fun.

Football player would be my first choice followed by basketball.

                            Golfer for the stated reasons.

There's a lot of life left after your playing days.

I like basketball better than any of these sports. But for pro career, I would choose golf. No injuries, no trades...and you can play it even when you're 65.
                              My Specs:

                              ZX Spectrum
                              CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
                              GPU: Monochrome display
                              RAM: 48 KB
                              OS: Sinclair BASIC
