You can't compare contracts across sports.

      For rookies:

      NFL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NBA>>>>MLB

      For veterans:

      MLB>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NBA>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>NFL

        Not even close.

He signed a 4 year deal for 15.1 million, so basically 3.8 million per year.

What about the NHL rookies ? I think NHL draft is the least noticed of all sports.

Rookies are fascinating because they're so unknown in a sense. You don't know what you're getting, what their potential is or what they could turn out to be.

We all watch sports to see something great happen and it's always possible that one of these rookies could be that "next one" or someone that gives us one of those great moments we'll always remember as sports fans.

That's why IMO people are fascinated with rookies.

To people that actually watch hockey, those rookies get noticed. We just had one of the best 1-2 drafts in a long while with Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin and that's all the hockey world was talking about for most of this season, "Taylor or Tyler?".

But yes, to outside fans and the casual sports watcher, the NHL draft is probably the least noticed.

That's it right there. It's fun trying to figure out what will happen in the future rather than discussing what we already know. Like Dayman said what's more interesting, discussing how a good a veteran is or discussing how well you think a rookie will do in the big time?

QB is probably the hardest position for a rookie to make an impact. Focusing just on QBs makes it pretty hard for anyone to argue the impact of rookies.

Exactly. Has Brady Quinn even started a whole year yet? I mean, judging a QB's career prior to 5 years in the league and at least 3 years as a starter is a bit ridiculous. I mean very few if any "legendary qb's" did much in their first few years.

In the OPs list half the stuff seems a bit off

06- Vince Young-Mediocre player at best
                        Brady Quinn Bust.

I mean, I know these guys didn't blow anyone away but at the same time both have started and lost their jobs. VY was thrown to the wolves, I mean even this year, your not going to define VY's career on performance. If he starts this season, finishes it, and then goes into next season, he will be through his 5th year and finally people can judge him. Same with Brady quinn. let the dude learn an offense, build rapport with that offense and take a year or 2, then lets talk about how good he is.

A 21st century quarterback with a 77.1 career QB rating and zero All-Pro teams under his belt is not a Hall Of Fame caliber career. He will never come close to sniffing Canton and rightfully so.
I like how you take one tiny part of my post and respond ONLY to that.

I didn't say it was a strong case but there's an argument to be made for Bledsoe as a borderline HOFer. I've heard it discussed by folks such as Vic Carucci, Peter King and the like. You may not like those guys but they have a lot of pull in the football media.

Even though Bledsoe doesn't have any All-Pro teams under his belt he was a 4 time Pro Bowler and when he retired was 5th in history in pass attempts, pass completions. 7th in passing yards and 13th in TD passes. I know it's easy to knock Bledsoe due to his last couple seasons but the man was in one of the most wide open offenses in league history and brought a credibility to the Patriots organization that wasn't there before. I think a lot of people underestimate what he did in the league.

That's not to say I think he's a surefire HOFer but I do think his case is one to mull over and not simply say "nope not a HOFer". Oh and his QB rating was in large part a function of the offense he ran for the majority of his career.

Anyways the larger point I was making is that if it wasn't for the absurd results of the '83 QB class there wouldn't be this insane pressure and reliance on the QB to be THE Franchise. I also find it pretty humorous that if a QB who may not be a HOF type is somehow considered not all that great even if he's had a damn good career. The comparison to '83 has probably hurt more QBs then anything else IMO.

Also while Bledsoe doesn't have the All-Pro

They get attention because they are supposed to be the future of the league and the future of the team.
