Re: Post your most recent purchase

Upgraded our RV from a 17 foot to a newer (2017) 30 foot one. Prices are good right now and found a deal I had to jump on. 13C459B3-9C0A-421A-AA57-1F6EBD0F90A1-2349-0000016FBF2BDEA3.jpegAF0471AD-8A2C-4652-A68E-95D868F41052-2349-0000017D7988871A.jpegD14C0D88-5423-40CD-8924-3728FEFB4810-2349-0000017D56A0AB0D.jpeg

So...I'm upgrading from an 8 year old Gateway PC running on the i7 860 (that's Gen 1 Lynnfield), so literally anything was going to be an improvement. It kind of falls in the "budget" line as far as current tech goes, but I feel like it'll fit my needs just fine. I don't plan on going above 1080p for a while yet because I game on a 23.6 inch monitor (and don't have much more desk space for a larger one), so based on what I'm reading the included Geforce 1060 should be able to handle that. Down the line I might look into 1440p monitors and a faster card to support it, but it's just not worth it to me right now. 4K isn't even on the table due to monitor size. HDR at 1080p is also a possibility at some point, but those monitors are still too expensive for me.

The small SATA hard drive doesn't bother me as I already have a 3 TB external. And this will be my first experience with an SSD.Last edited by bcruise; 11-23-2018, 05:12 PM.Comment

Re: Post your most recent purchase

With the 1060 or a better card? How do you like it?

I like just about everything I've read about it as far as its upgradability - that's why I'm not afraid of starting with the 1060 and moving up later. The cases for the Best Buy deal with the 1060 and the one with the 2080 are identical, so I know it'll fit if I get it later on.

The motherboard on my old PC really put me in a bad spot as far as upgrading - I was able to upgrade the GPU but I could never do anything about the Lynnfield processor, so that CPU speed just kept becoming a bigger bottleneck each year.Last edited by bcruise; 11-23-2018, 09:21 PM.Comment

Re: Post your most recent purchase

Got my first smart power bar. Cool to use. Control things from my phone, can set timers, and use google home to control too. Literally getting to turn things on and off by talking.

Timer helps especially this time of the year. Turning lights on during part of day I'd need it on a it won't be dark inside when I'm now entering room early morning or late night. Christmas tree control too which is nice. No bending under tree to turn on lights. Can have it on everyday on timer.Comment

Re: Post your most recent purchase

It arrived today and I'm in heaven. As I expected, putting everything I wanted to keep on the external drive was the right move - after changing the steam library settings to point there the games loaded right up with only a handful of small downloads needed. For someone without a particularly fast internet connection that's HUGE.

Putting the FF15 demo on (which barely ran at the lowest settings on my old PC) was all I needed to see to confirm the performance difference with the 1060. Solid 60 FPS at 1080p on whatever the auto settings are (average I think). Putting it on highest I can see the frame drop, but it's still playable - looks to be easily over 30 fps. Also put XCOM 2 on which always tanked hard on the tactical (Avenger) layer and it's butter smooth at Maximum settings too.

Not having to go above 1080p right now has really saved my budget.

Haven't gotten to test out the SSD yet.Last edited by bcruise; 11-30-2018, 12:07 AM.Comment

Re: Post your most recent purchase

Bought myself a Samsung Galaxy Watch 46mm for Christmas. Thanks, kids.

Got Battlefield V on sale at GameStop. I also cashed in some of my ProRewards and got it for $15.

I purchased Madden 19 last week with Battlefield V but thought otherwise and returned it for these three. I then cashed in more ProRewards, so with Elite Pro, and the returned game credit, I paid $4 and some change. I wouldn't have gotten Constructor but I had a B2G1 promo coupon and the cashier, being an amazing human, made Just Cause 4 my free game.
