And check out Heart Shaped Box. "Horns" isn't as good, but HSB is the only book I've had to stop reading because it was 1am and I was actually scared.Comment

The ending gets a little ridiculous, as King's tend to do, but it's such a good ride with some amazingly well done characters and growth.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
For the first time ever I've actually finished an entire series of books. Don't hate, it was "Mockingjay" which is the last of the Hunger Games.
SpoilerI enjoyed it overall. Don't see why some people didn't unless they were just mad it didn't take place in the arena again. How it all ended I liked, but how it was written I did not. So much lead up and the final parts seemed rushed and too convenient for making it so dark. It was like Primm just came out of no where to die. Maybe cause I was reading in the car and did for four hours straight, but I thought Katniss dreamed it at first.
Any recommendations for something that is available in the Kindle Lender's Library? I'd like to use my free rental, but if not "The Stand" is next on my list. I wouldn't mind a Tom Clancy novel either.Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 10-06-2013, 11:50 PM.Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Just finished Wool Omnibus (All five wool books collected as one). Very entertaining book. If you ever wanted to read a book about how life would be in one the vaults in fallout 3 hundeds of years after the apocalyspe then this book is for you because thats basically the synopsis.
I'm just reading this book now and it's great.
I would say the favourite fiction/fantasy book I've read is The Name of the Wind. It's a trilogy and the third one probably won't be out until 2015 (Pat Rothfuss took 4 years to write the second one in 2011) but I absolutely loved it.
Other books I would recommend:The Lions of Al-Rassan. It's a one-off book that I would compare to a poor man's Middle Eastern Game of Thrones.
For baseball I loved Moneyball (much more than what was in the movie) and the Summer of '49.Comment

Rented "Cyberstorm" from the Amazon library. It's free so I figured I would try it before Stephen King's "The Stand".Comment

What's a good place to start for King? I have The Shining, but haven't brought myself to read it yet.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Yeah, saying where to start with King is hard. Depends which side you're looking for:
Horror? The Shining and IT are the top two for fear factor. Then you also have the well-known but not quite scary "horror" books of his with Cujo, Carrie, Pet Semetary, etc.
"Easy-read"? The Long Walk (written by Bachman, Kings alter-ego). Short, basic, but such an awesome story. The Gunslinger (first book of the Dark Tower series) is an easy read, but obviously as you delve into the rest of the series it becomes much grander and you pay more attentions.
Other? The Stand is an epic but well-worth the investment in the 1400+ page unabridged version. Salem's Lot is an actually well-written vampire novel. The Green Mile is an awesome book. Misery (which I guess could/should've went in the horror section as it is frightening) is a must read. Cell is his take on zombies and is hit or miss with readers.
My list of what to read overall:
The Shining
IT
The Stand
The Gunslinger (and if you get hooked the rest of the Dark Tower series. Well worth it.)
The Green Mile
The Long Walk
The Dark Half
Insomnia
Under the Dome (do not take the **** TV show as a representation of how incredible the novel is)
Desperation and then The Regulators (in that order, they're sister novels written by King and then by Bachman)Comment
