Finished The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. Really good alien book but not as fulfilling an ending as I would've liked. It'll keep you guessing, though.

Onto Looking for Alaska by John Green, and then probably To Kill a Mockingbird.

Made my way to the local bookstore today to add to my massive library collection and came away with couple interesting books to keep me entertained through the winter.

      Sandy Koufax- A lefty's legacy.

Sandy Koufax is one of my favorite baseball players of all time and I've been trying to find this book for quite some time but to no avail. I've thumbed through the pages and it read the back cover and it seems like a solid read.

Hero- The Life and Legend of Lawrence of Arabia

I've always been fascinated with Lawrence of Arabia ever since I saw the movie (Lawrence of Arabia) on TCM. I've read things about him on the internet but this is the first book about him that I've ever decided to read.

Lastly... the price of books is getting insanely high. I looked at the prices of books that have just come out and they're ranging anywhere from 35-50 dollars? What's the deal?

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

I'm currently reading Dracula by Bram Stoker. I never realized that the majority of the book is just journal and diaries entries.

I have two on deck. The first is League of Denial, which investigates the NFL and their concussion fiasco and Becoming Mr. October, a book written by Reggie Jackson.

American Gods wasn't for me. I read about 175 pages and it was too weird, just gave up.

I really enjoyed the Twinborn trilogy by J.S. Morin. The first book Firehurler was the best but the finish was great.

The Rook was a good book. If you like Bourne, X-Men and MI6 stuff you will probably like this combo mystery. My biggest complaint was the flashback stuff. They were overly long and tedious and broke up the main story far too much (sometimes right in the middle of something interesting).

Reading the first Bourne book (I know it's different than the movie) and I really like it. The Marie character is VERY different.

Anybody read the Shining sequel, Dr. Sleep yet? I'm about 100 pages in and man, is it dark.

Yup. Book was quite different (and if you're only 100 in you have some twists and turns ahead for you) than The Shining and not as good but it is a very solid follow up novel.

Not sure if its been mentioned in this massive thread but

Mike Tyson's Undisputed Truth is Highly entertaining so far (280 of 590)
Surprisingly he is fairly intelligent, He has a vulnerability about him and obviously got taken advantage of by many, it is very interesting a must read for any boxing fan, and even if youre just a person who grew up in his era and didn't care for him or boxing this will have you hooked after one chapter.

                      Great book

I really enjoyed Tyson's book as well. Lots of humlity from him. He has no problems sharing some of his most embarrassing moments or calling himself out for his terrible behavior.

I think my favorite part of the book is when he goes into the rivalry with Mitch Green.
That dude should have written his own book! He was crazy!

Currently reading "The Dark Horse" by Craig Johnson. It's the 'Walt Longmire' series.
                        Very entertaining thus far.

Has anyone read any of the Gears of War books? I might give that a shot.
I'm also interested in reading the Bryce Harper book where it details his year in Jr. College.

I have been going through Brandon Simms' Three Victories and a Defeat, which is basically the story of Britain's history from the beginnings of the split from Rome to the American Revolution. It's a good book, but it is really deep and can get redundant. I've put it down for The First Clash by Jim Lacey, which is about the lead up to and the details of the Battle of Marathon. It's really good so far.

Just finished book one(of five) of Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series.

Was an awesome book. Going to start book two momentarily.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II

Just finished reading a couple nice books on my Kindle Fire.

The first was The Red Sox Years, Terry Francona's synopsis of his time in Boston. It was really, really insightful as far as how the behind the scenes stuff unfolded. Basically, the book was told from Francona's perspective with insight from then GM Theo Epstein and the ownership group as well as a few of the players. The whole book was essentially detailing how Boston got themselves into the mess of 2011-2012 and created "The Monster." Without spoiling too much, they basically outsmarted themselves and the Baseball Operations department didn't have enough of a spine to say no to ownership. Essentially, the collapse was brought on by TV ratings which had declined 33% since 2007 and the ownership group's unwaivering stance that Theo and Terry do whatever it took to raise the ratings. In turn, that prompted the Carl Crawford signing and the Adrian Gonzalez trade. The book was extremely insightful as to how baseball in Boston works and how all that behind the scenes stuff impacted baseball in Boston. Great book.

The second book was The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway has always been my favorite author and I'd seen the movie of this book and was therefore prompted to read the book. Some might think it's boring because it's basically all about this guy from Cuba who goes fishing and his incredible journey in the Caribbean chasing a Marlin of unbelievable proportions. Overall, I was enticed by the relaxing nature of the book and just the overall story. It sounds like it would be boring but this book had me hooked the whole way through.
