How to Win Friends and Influence People. My Accounting Information Systems professor required us to read it for the semester. Its a corny title, but the actual content of the book is helpful (while being obvious) and relevant in almost any situation.

With the 150th anniversary coming up soon, I requested Landscape Turned Red: The Battle of Antietam by Stephen W. Sears. There were lots of available copies in the library system, so hopefully the bookmobile swings through my neighborhood soon.Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Hope y'all don't mind the almost 3-month bump on this thread...
Just wanted to share my list of books to finish during my winter break:
- Places and Spaces I've Been by Pharrell - I'm half way done with this, but it's not really a novel but more like a huge magazine with a ton of interviews in it... Either way, Pharrell is one of the most inspirational people for me out there.
- Game of Thrones Series - The HBO series are starting up again in March, but I kind of want to read the entire series before then... I started reading the first one but I ran into a huge slump when the semester started.
- Art of War by Sun Tzu - I heard this book was great... I've always wanted to read it. Not quite sure why, but I'm hoping it'll be a change of pace book reading about dragons and knights and what not into a somewhat strategic book on life in general.
And then if I still have time, maybe I'll start reading those old Halo books I used to read back in middle school...Comment

Thanks for the bump. Since my last post, I finished Xenocide (loved it), 1984 for school (Meh. Brave New World was better), Green River Running Red (about the Green River killer), and a Visit from the Goon Squad (really interesting style). Now I'm reading Children of the Mind, part four of the Ender saga.

Girlfriend just let me "borrow" her Kindle Touch that she never uses... Reset it to factory settings cause it had a bunch of sample books that she wasn't reading and it was messy. I have the hard copy books, but I'm gonna start on the Game of Thrones series as soon as the break starts!Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Great Expectations - Charles Dickens.
It's for my English class, and I do like the bittersweet ending. Though Pip doesn't get anything he really wanted in the end.
I am still trying to plow through the Secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel book but it's hard to find a copy of the Necromancer in my school library...Comment

I'm still chopping away at The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, by William L. Shirer, in my free time. I'm now at page 750 of just over 1,000, so I think I can finish it this month. I've learned a lot by reading the book and it flows very well.
I haven't read a fiction book in awhile. I think the last one I read was Red Army by Ralph Peters, which was pretty decent, though probably unrealistic given the state that the Soviet military was in at the time as facts have come out after the USSR's demise.Comment

Boo! 1984 is my favorite book ever, not that Brave New World isn't great in its own right. Fahrenheit 451 is also excellent.

I can understand why 1984 was such a hot item when it was first written, and all the way through into the 80's, but with the way that society has changed in the computer/internet age, I feel that Brave New World is much more believable, as is Fahrenheit 451. For me, a well written story that is entirely fantasy, yet still plausible, is an incredible feat.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I am on a little dystopian role lately. Finished the Hunger Games trilogy recently. Liked the first one best then liked the second one less but still enjoyed it. The third one was ok. I understand that HG was a "rip off" of the Japanese book Battle Royale and that BR was vastly superior. That book is on order.
Read the Divergent/Insergent books and am waiting on the third and, I believe, final book, which I hope is due out soon. Again the books were OK.
I just finished the second book of the Maze Runner trilogy, the Scorch Trials. I have the final book on order and will read it soon. Decent books so far with a lot of action, which is entertaining, but I am somewhat disapointed that after two books that more info hasn't been disclosed.
For a change of pace I just picked up The Storyteller by Michaelis. I have read numerous great reviews about this book and am looking forward to reading it. Anyone here read it yet? If so, any impressions or thoughts on it?Comment
