Re: OS Book Club Pt II
When I was sick, I bought License to Pawn by Rick Harrison on my Kindle... It was decent, but nothing too great.
I started reading Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln. Solid read so far and it really takes you back to that time and gives a glimpse of who John Wilkes Booth was.
Finally, I just bought Wherever I Wind Up by R.A. Dickey. Very good read so far and I'm excited to get further along in it. So far, it seems like the guy has been through a lot and he has an amazing story to tell. It's awesome to see him having so much success with the Mets.Comment

Did anyone ever read Artie Lange's "Too Fat To Fish"? I've read mixed reviews, but most negative reviews were just bashing the man because of his issue. Thinking about getting the audio book, because I love to listen to Artie tell stories.Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Fun books go too quickly! Guess I need to find a nice, slow, boring history book now.
UPDATE: I'm going to take another stab at 1776 by David McCullough. I was reading it when we moved two years ago, but lost it in the shuffle. I recently came across it on the bookshelf (imagine that!) in my garage. There is a napkin between pages 228/9... so should I pick up there or start over?Last edited by Qb; 06-22-2012, 10:49 AM.Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Anybody read the Joe DiMaggio book 56? I was thinking of picking it up today.
I finished off the third book of A Song of Fire and Ice, A Storm of Swords. It was really good and I was ready to dive right into the next book, but I decided to take a break since that book had a good ending point for me.
I wanted to take a break and read a couple other books, like 56. I just finished reading the two newest Timothy Zahn Star Wars books. They were so good. They take place 6 months after Skywalker blows up the first Death Star. It follows Luke and Han as they start doing Rebellion missions with Leia, but I thought the main stars of the book is a squad of five stormtroopers that were forced to desert the Empire, but still remain loyal to protecting the citizens of the Empire, although they are starting to see the real evil of the Empire. Mara Jade (years later becomes Mara Jade Skywalker) is also a big part of the books as she is on missions for the Emperor to stop treason against the Empire. Anyways, those books are titled Allegiance and Choices of One, both very good. You really don't need any Star Wars knowledge outside of the movies to enjoy them.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I read the book 56 that I posted about last week. The story was pretty good, although the author's style was a little off. The book starts out a few games before DiMaggio's streak begins, he was in a slump, and then goes through the whole 56 game streak. Pretty cool reading about some of the close calls in the streak and about other players during that era. You get to know about Joe's friends and family during that time, along with stories of other people totally unconnected to DiMaggio other than just being a fan and caught up in the streak. Ted Williams is mentioned in the book a few times because of the Yankees playing the Red Sox during the streak as well as that also being the last season someone batted over .400. That was also the year Gehrig died, so that's in the book too. Every now and then in the book, a present day chapter popped up in the book, titled A View From Here. Some of those were pretty interesting, they were a look back on the streak from today and what affect it has had. There was a good chapter about Pete Rose during his 44 game hitting streak.
I've started The Bourne Identity now, always wondered what it was like compared to the movies which I love. Through the first 5 chapters, it's pretty different, that's for sure.

Yeah, the Bourne books are a lot different. Basically the constants are some of the character names and Bourne's condition.
