My guess the latter since he was homosexual....and he probably didn't tell anyone(including his parents most likely).

Let's keep this on topic (not that it's gone off topic yet, but this thread has potential to)...just sayin.' By the way guys, there's been a rash of gay suicides lately among teens. If you look up or google the "it gets better" project by Dan Savage, it's youtube videos of older people telling the stories of homophobia they experienced in junior high and high school; letting them know it goes away usually and offers hope that it does actually get better.

...that being said, get a book from your library called "The Impossible Will Have to Wait a Little While." It's a collection of uplifting essays on a variety of topics, and one recounts a writer's experience of working at the suicide hotline. It's an amazing story.

Suicide is a horrible thing. And what these 2 students did is a horrible thing. The fact that you can drive someone to suicide should be punishable by more than 5 years...as should videotaping someone who doesn't consent in an intimate act...whoever they are. Wow. This is sad

In the Phoebe Prince case in South Hadley, MA the DA charged the teens who bullied her with violation of civil rights with death resulting. If NJ has a similar law, which I don't know either way (EWRMETS is the NJ lawyer here), then it would seem to apply here with a hate crime enhancement. I'd also say that since it was broadcast all over the country I'd want to look for whatever Federal laws could apply as well.

Yes you do. But a civil rights violation could be charged under both state and federal law in this case with no double jeopardy applying.

This is pretty horrible. I bet the kids were not looking for this to happen and was doing it more as a hateful joke, typical cruel behavior by young kids. It does not make it right by any means, but kids being hateful to each other is very common. But wow what a horrible situation for everyone involved.

We made fun of each other in high school and college but never to this point. This much conspiring was far more work than we ever would have done.
