You don't have to be a genius to get good grades in high school.

If you're smart and try a little bit you should easily be pulling a 3.5 and if you actually try a 4+ weighed GPA is easy.

College varies much more by major. You can be smart, try, and still do poorly in one major or be of average intelligence, not try and get a 3.8 in another.

GPA? How does this work, my school just averages out all of your grades to one grade.

A=4, B=3, etc. Add up and divide by total classes (or weight for credit hours).

          Re: Grades

HS was like a 5.1 (But Grade inflation is crazy here, that wasnt even top 10%) I could have done much better if I tried.

Now, I am semi trying in college. I could have graduated already but trying to get into good grad schools..... right now I have a 3.7 with 3.8s and 3.9s in my major with several national conference presentations under my belt. Applying to grad schools next month..... wish me luck!

I graduated with a 4.7 weighted, 3.97 unweighted GPA (15th in my class of 285). AP Classes = GRADE INFLATION.

I don't have a college GPA yet, but yet's just say that it won't be quite that high (It will probably be around 3.25).

                    Re: Grades

about the 2.8 range in HS because I never cared. Especially Senior year, when I refused to fix my term paper in an English class...that counted for my entire grade that semester.

I got all A's and an F my senior year.

College, I was in the 3.3's.

                        Re: Grades

High School was a 2.6 cause I didn't really want to be there so I did just enough to keep my folks and coach's off my butt.

College the first time around was incomplete, now 11 years later I'm carrying a 3.75 almost two years in. It's amazing what some life experience will do for your motivation to get good grades.

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Ha, I graduated high school with like a 1.9 or something ridiculous. Just didn't really ever go to class once I became an upperclassman. Was taking acid all the time, skipping class to smoke pot, etc.

Grew up, had a 3.8 at JC when getting my AA; 3.2 or something at UM for my BA; in grad school at UM now, no grades posted yet.

I had a 3.76 in High School and never made any effort to get it. I did most of my homework in the hall before class or on the bus and never studied. Those habits carried over to college and now my GPA is only like a 2.6 .

I don't understand how some of you guys had sub-2.0s and still got into college? Or did you go to community college and/or transfer?

I went to community college then transfered to a university. I probably could have gotten in somewhere. Instead I stayed home and went to CC. 1500 for tuition and books a semester and no rent versus 4,000 and rent.
