    Re: Grades

Not sure what it was in high school. Not very good, I completely ****ed around freshmen year and part of sophomore year and got pretty bad grades. After that I put in some more effort and did pretty well, but not amazing or anything. My SAT's were what got me into UConn, and barely, as I got in off the wait list.

College, 2.8. Some of the gen ed's killed me. Did great in classes for my major though. GPA was just good enough to get me in the grad program I wanted, and hopefully I'll do better since all the classes are pretty much stuff I'm interested in.

of course, I ended up transferring down to the Stamford campus after my first year. There is a business major you can complete down here (most majors you have to finish up at Storrs), so that's what I'm doing. It's nice because this is where the business grad program is, and its also a great location for job hunting. I mean, lower Fairfield/Greenwich county is virtually the financial capital of the world and there is a ton of opportunities to get your foot in the door down here, plus a lot of the professors have connections. Beats being stuck up in cow country by a mile (besides the fact that it's not as fun and you don't get the real "college experience"). In terms of the job outlook, being in Stamford is infinitely better

not to mention with no housing I'm only paying 4K a semester. thats a nice little perk lol

I'm wondering that, as well. I didn't really try very hard in high school (I didn't really study much for tests), but I did do my HW and go to all my classes, which is key. I had all As throughout high school until the final semester until I got a B in AP Calculus BC (Calc. II), including a 69 on my final test. I almost got Bs in Honors Chemistry, Geometry, and AP Psychology, but I scooted through barely with those thanks to good grades on my final exams.

College is certainly harder. I don't anticipate having close to a 4.0 in college given that my major is heavy in math and sciences (which are generally harder than liberal arts classes and the like from what I understand), but I'd at least like to make the Dean's List (3.25 GPA).

3.7, 8th in my class of 150. Junior year was my toughest, senior year was more about getting college stuff done. Got into VCU, NSU, and ODU. For a good 2 months was set on going to JMU but didn't get in, and settled for ODU. Happy with it, love it here. Junior year, 3.15 GPA as a Poly Sci major.

Me, I managed a 3.7 in high school (no stupidly weighted grades here...though saying a 4.8 would have been sweet in that case) and finished college with a 2.8, though I pulled a 3+ major GPA after throwing away the first two years out of sheer drunken stupidity.

                    Re: Grades

Didn't try in HS cause I knew all along Football would get me into college or I would be attending to community college for 2 years before a 4-year school due to family funds.

Ended up getting a scholarship to a prep school and than a semester at d2 school in PA for football. Ended up having health issues which caused me to go to CC for a year and a year of online classes at the CC. Due to health problems I went into depression state for a year and half and had like a 2.25 GPA.

Got help with all of that stuff and got in Towson University and now have a 3.1 GPA.

Took 5 years to graduate college/ 6 with missed year due to health issue.

I don't think anyone has claimed perfect ACT scores or straight A+ grades, even though neither would be out of the question. You don't have to be smart at all in high school to pull a good GPA assuming you stay away from the advanced maths and sciences (AP Calc, Physics, Chem).

I believe everyone here has claimed to go to a large state school, and aside from Berkley and UVA none of them are particularly difficult to get into.

If you feel you have to be a liar to claim to get a high B or low A average and go to NCState that says a hell of a lot more about you than it does anyone else.

Fresh out of high school, I finished with a 3.7 GPA

It was sort of funny because in my freshman year, I was a workhorse...locked up in my room, studying, doing ALL my homework and what not because my principals and teachers acted like high school was the gateway to success. But as I got older and stuff I realized that having a social life was OK and I turned out to be moderately "popular". I started doing most of my homework in 1st period (lol) and had a lot more fun during my time in high school.

And now...here I am...going to the college of my dreams (which I will not reveal)

I had a 2.7. Never did homework or the busy work in classes where I understood things. Just aced the tests/projects/ and papers and went on. My GPA would have been better, but my freshman year killed it as I didn't really pay much attention to school when my brother died that year.

                              Re: Grades

high school I did great...but it really didn't take much to do great even if it was a good school

went to Penn State and had 2.95 for my bachelors degree, slacked off BIG TIME in college...big time, My only good sememster was the first semester.....and then the last semester. 2.95 isn't BAD in engineering, but you know when people say " kid got ok grades, but he knows nothing "....that was me....graduated in 5.5 years doing nothing....

So I panicked because other than people skills and BSing professors, I learned no substance in the engineering department, and was destroyed in my job interviews and walked out feeling like an idiot...I was one.

Masters degree was my only choice.....got in the petroleum engineering department (not very related to my bachelors degree in engineering ) after getting a 790/800 in the math GRE and really applied myself for my grad school....did good....GPA of 3.73 now I'm in the oil industry and loving every minute of it.

HIGH GPA doesn't mean smart it's more hard work so anyone with desire can do well in school anywhere, i really believe that. Might be harder to get grades with an average brain when compared to a genius brain, but it can be done.

Low GPA means you're just not interested in school or hate the topic, or a learning problem (disorder, stress, etc)

Took my ACT and got a 22 but I was in the 95 percentile in science so I did really good in science but I guess I didnt do too well on the rest of the test
