    move to Reno homie!!! lol

but you could always move somewhere just outside of NYC like South Orange or Hoboken. They have an active and bustling atmosphere and the people are essentially new yorkers

Wow, that is a really cool site. I am absolutely astonished to find out that the crime rate in my city is as low as it is. It damn sure doesn't seem like it:

          ^ That stuff is great.

With all the crazy taxes (and it's only going to get worse) I don't think I would live in NYC. I love the city but it just doesn't make sense to me, nor does the lifestyle. Eating out 6-7 days a week, small apartments, etc. I mean, if I'm going to live in Manhattan what's the point of staying in and cooking dinner five nights a week? lol. The crowds, congestion, noise, smell, etc don't bother me at all though. I love the transit system. You def can't deny that there is always an energy in the city, it's kinda addicting.

I'm hoping to move down to Stamford (CT) over the summer. 40 minute, $6 Metro North ride into Grand Central, close enough to go in for a week night Knicks or Yankee game or even dinner/drinks. The city is right there but you still get a little bit of space and "normal" life in Stamford. Plus it's a great young professional crowd there (aka girls with their ish together and good careers lol). Yes, it's still expensive as hell to live there but at least you don't get the city/state/commuter whatever tax you'll get in NYC. Plus I like driving and having my car and being able to drive to the grocery store, a hardware store, a huge gym, etc. I don't need to be going to the Trader Joe's in Union Square and having to wait in life for an hour and fifteen minutes to pick up a few items on the regular.

The city itself is crazy expensive for rents but there is a lot of good deals just outside the city. I have lived in Queens for the past 8 years and never been more than 20-30 minutes away from midtown via subway. To me, living in the city itself isn't worth it.

3 years - 2BR with my brother in Sunnyside. Really nice size started at $1250 left at $1400.
2 years - 2BR (1 as an office) with an ex in Astoria. Astoria is a little trendy/pricey, but not as bad as Park Slope Brooklyn. We were also right in the heart of Astoria $1650.
2 year - 1BR in a different part of Astoria. Practically as big as my previous 2BR $1350. My fiancee moved-in in March, and now it's an absolute STEAL for $625/each

You pay that freaking much for a 1 bedroom APARTMENT ??????????

Oh hell no............I pay $900 a month for my 3 bed room, 9 rooms total, 5 acre size yard HOUSE. No way in the world I would pay that much for a freaking apartment......You might as well buy freaking house in the suburbs somewhere for that price a month.

My ex had a studio in Greenwich Village and paid $2200/mo. The living room in my house is bigger than her entire apartment.

Utterly absurd. I don't give a damn, no city is worth that high of a cost of living.

Funniest part was that I initially met her in CT and we talked on the phone a couple of times before I went down to visit her for the first time and she kept talking about how awesome her apartment was. I walked into her apt the first, looked around and just chuckled inside.

Location is everything in NYC. Some of my buddies that used to live in Upper East had a place that was almost twice as big, a 2 BR and they paid $500 less.

Yeah people just waste money to me. I don't do apartments and condos......I rather have a house with land. I grew up in Chicago and that living on top of each other feeling you have living in a major city always irked me.

Got to have my space.....piece and quiet. I am married, don't need the nightlife scene. Don't need traffic jams, waiting in long lines just for a gallon of milk.

I love NY, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Now I wouldn't want to live in Manhattan, but in Brooklyn I'm more than content. I just hate the feel of suburbs and/or areas where you have to drive 15 minutes to the nearest town to buy a gallon of milk.
