I would sure complain if my teams went from heavy contenders/championship winners to the lower half in a span of 5 years. Now if they go into rebuilding mode, that's fine, but not if they just start dumping payroll for no good reason.

My teams have only won 3 championships combined (2 for the Avalanche, 1 for the Packers) since I've been alive. The Packers and Rockies have each been to their sports championship another time and lost as well.
    NFL: Green Bay Packers
    MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
    NBA: Denver Nuggets
    NHL: Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins
NCAA: Air Force Falcons, Penn State Nittany Lions

      THIS

If your team has a fire sale immediately following the winning of a championship you have every single right as a fan to complain. From World Series victory in 1997 to finishing with 54 wins and 52 games back in 1998 due to trading every. single. player. worth a damn. Although in hindsight, that fire sale helped the team acquire players to win the Series again in 2003 but they then had another fire sale so...
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

If you I were a Saints fan I'd be very tempted to complain soon.

Does the 5th year count? Because Texas won a NC in 2005 and this year the team is in shambles.

Yeah sure, I have no issue with those who complain within five years after winning a title. I probably did a little bit at some point but I must admit that there's no way I've taken winning for granted. Everytime I watched the Pistons come up short between 2005 and 2010, I was always quick to follow with that feeling of, "Ah yes, I remember 2004, great times."

I love that I got to watch the Pistons win a belt during my adult life. I can understand how people who love the Pistons a ton (like me) would still forever yearn for them to win all the time though, so I guess with that would come complaints. However, it's a bonus for me from here on out. I'm just glad I got to see it once, as 8-1 underdogs no less.

            Champion.

              Depends entirely on the situation

              For example in college football:

              Alabama or Florida: No
              LSU: Maybe
              Miami or FSU: Absolutely

If the team remains good and doesn't clearly underachieve (like the Heat getting the 7 seed and losing with their talent or something) then no.

If the main reasons for the team being successful retire or are injured (see the late 90s Bulls) then no.

If the championship was fluky and the team doesn't absolutely suck afterward (2004 Pistons, 2007 Giants) then no.

If the team is seriously underachieving then yes (2007 and 2008 Heat come to mind the most).

I think you should be able to. One should not become complacent due to unwritten rules, one should always be striving to be champion.

If that means a fan can complain about a run call on 4th and 1, so be it.

if your a fan of philly sports then yes , all of our teams have made it to the championship game , superbowl, ws in the last 5-10 years out of five we won 1 . it kills me you can't say that bout any other city that has all four sports.

Re: Are you allowed to complain about your team within 5 years of a championship win?

I say the year after, complaining is off limits. You were the champions last year so it's still very fresh and you can still bask in the glory. I feel like losses, like the Phillies in last year's WS, don't sting nearly as much. Now that the Phils have made it to the NLCS in 3 straight years, and only have won 1 WS, that first one is becoming less important and less fresh. Instead of a dynasty, you're turning into a team "that could have been". So now I can see the frustration coming from Phillies fans, though after last year's WS loss I would've said stop your bitchin'.

So basically there's that one year buffer and then it's back to being just another team trying to win a championship.
