There was a huge crowd around me with people going "Oh ****, get an ambulance" and stuff like that and I just popped up like nothing happened. It didn't really hurt that bad since it hit me right in the meat of my neck, but it left a gigantic welt that I had to live with for the entirety of the game and the next few days
One time in high school when we had practice in the gym I was on one end of the gym doing a bunting drill with some other people. On the other end of the gym, they were taking batting practice off this pitching machine that threw curve balls. My back was towards them, and I turned around for some reason, and the split second I turn around I take a line drive off the throat. They were using these soft rubber balls so it wasn't toooo bad. For about 10 seconds I felt like I couldn't breathe and was going to die, then it was completely fine. Just really bad luck/timing, the gym was pretty big, pretty incredible that a ball was coming at that spot the second I turned around.

Yea, it was like I had a 6th sense or something because I was turning my head to look in that direction and caught a glimpse of the ball right before it hit me

HS Freshman baseball. While batting I fouled a ball off the inside corner of the plate(at least thats where the ump says it hit) and the ball bounced back up, striking me in the face and breaking my nose.

        * Getting tossed in a game during college when after asking the home plate umpire actually had a strike zone or even understood the rules of baseball.

        * Fielding a bunt in HS where I charged the ball perfectly and was going to throw the runner out at 3rd(batter bunted down wrong base line), but as I went to throw I lost my footing and did the splits, thus splitting my pants and hurting myself.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

my teammate was wrestling at states and was not feeling well and actually crapped himself and the opponents head during the match.

I was ranked in the state my Senior Year and was the #1 seed in districts and was taking on a person that I beat 18-3 the week before. I went in for a takedown and he hooked me for the pin. Out of the state tournament and I went and cried for like 7 hours.

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

Midget football when I was 9...we were winning 56-14 with like 10 seconds left, I was playing LB...other team has the ball (I wanna say it was around our 30 yard line). Call a run play, dude fumbles the ball and it literally rolls right to my feet. I pick it up and do the classic "what the hell should I do?" move by standing there for like a second, then start running, only to get tackled at the 4 yard line. I'd like to find the bro that denied me my touchdown.

Re: Most emberassing sports moment ever?

Back in 5th grade, I was playing a game of basketball for a rec league. I stole the ball and proceeded to go through the motion of a fast break. I was expecting a little push so I put extra oomph into the layup and ended up tossing it over the backboard sending it out of bounds.

Last year, I was playing basketball again putting full court pressure on the opposing guard. He got by me and it was just side by side sprinting down the baseline and their center who's probably about 230-250 pounds set a screen just after the half court line. I'm a thin person weighing at 125 lbs at 5'9. I did not see the screen at all and ran full speed into him, bounced back at least 5 feet and just stared at the ceiling not knowing what just happened. I get up about 10 seconds later with everyone hysterically laughing including my coach creating a reenactment.

Game: Regional championship @ Florida Gators
Setting: Getting blown out in the 8th inning
Result: I last 1/3 of an inning giving up like five lasers around the field. The worst part was having a fan yell "He's running!" which caused me to duck down like the catcher was going to throw it to 2nd. The runner didn't go...it was on national TV...

                Honorable mention:
Pre-game vs Nebraska in the Metrodome: I tripped on the astroturf and ate it while shagging fly balls. I was that pitcher who would fly around catching all the balls and had the rep as the "athletic pitcher". Many laughs were had at my expense.

Re: Most emberassing sports moment ever?

For me it's not even close. It was as a freshman in college.

First a back story. In the first game I was on the first team kick return team as a true freshman, but I was replaced the day before the game, so I ended up not playing at all in that first game, as that would have been the only opportunity for me to play. Well, the next week I was put back on the kick return team as one of the middle guys in the back wedge.

Game rolls around and right before the coin toss I'm so nervous about playing my first college game that I'm praying that we don't receive the opening kickoff. What do you know, we ended up taking the ball for the opening kick. So I go back on the return team and set up at around the 15-20 yard line on the hash for my first college action. The opposing kicker lines up and kicks it directly at me on the fly. I stood still and was calm to try to catch the ball, as I was coached to field the ball, as long as I didn't have to backpedal or get called off by the returner. As the ball is about to fall into my arms, my mind goes black and I hear a "ooohhh" from the crowd, as our returner collides into me trying to catch the kick also. I get up and our team is scuffling around to recover the ball, which we did at around the 10 yard line. I have no real idea what happened but as I head over to the sideline the head coach is running over to me to cuss me out and say, "We didn't recruit you to return kicks!" I yell back, "He didn't call me off!" I walk over to the sideline and the special teams coach says it's alright and it wasn't my fault.

That was my WELCOME TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL moment. Pretty embarrassing.

Re: Most emberassing sports moment ever?

-I once picked off an inbounds pass at half court with a minute left in a one point game, raced down the court, misjudged my positioning on the floor and jumped off of two feet from the free throw line and left my potential lead-changing layup wedged between the front of the rim and the backboard.

30 seconds later in the same game, my teammate pulled up for a jumper from the free throw line, drawing my defender away from the basket. The shot rimmed out directly into my hands for an uncontested tip-in, which I totally missed. I remember having flashbacks right then of all the SportsCenter highlights I'd watched over the years where I'd see college and NBA players missing point blank shots at the buzzer and wondering "How the heck do they miss that?!?" And yes, we won in spite of me.

-I also recall driving to the lane early in the first quarter of a relatively meaningless non-conference matchup. I drew a foul and hit the deck pretty hard as I attempted my shot. I laid flat on my back for a brief moment, perhaps exaggerating the contact. As I lay there, my shot fell from the sky and smashed me directly in the face. The crowd all seemed to laugh in unison and I'm certain I turned red with embarrassment, even though really, it wasn't that ridiculous of a moment.

-Finally, once again on a fast break, I was hit on my way to the bucket, turning me around in mid air. As I twirled and fell, my hand inexplicably became twisted into the outside of an opponent's pair of shorts, in a knot-like fashion. There was ten seconds where I was trying to walk to the free throw line while trying in vain to dislodge my hand from in between my opponents legs. We both laughed nervously and never spoke of that moment again.

Re: Most emberassing sports moment ever?

                      Great idea for a thread.

I didn't play in any official leagues, but I've had my moments.

Back when I was nine, during one of my hockey lessons, we were just wrapping up the lesson and I was getting ready to head off the ice. I was five feet away from one of the ice rink exits when for whatever reason (I don't remember since I got a concussion from this) I somehow ended up on the ice. My brother was there and he told me that I spun and fell on my *** with everyone watching. I had a crowd around me and they went up to my brother asking "hey, he's your brother right? go check if he's alright". All he said was "eh, he does this all the time, he's fine."

In middle school during P.E. one day, we were playing softball and since it's not really organized, there were about 12 people on the field on defense at a time. Anyways, most people played near the infield since no one could really hit so I had the bright idea of playing shallow left. Someone hit a high pop-up and I decided to go sprinting for it while at the same time completely ignoring where my teammates were. Unfortunately I ended up barrelling right into a girl who was right underneath it and the ball ended falling right on my head. Needless to say we were both okay, except for the big bruise that formed on my forehead.

Softball-related again, but this time in high school. I was playing first base for my team and someone popped it up foul on my side. Again, I had to do my best Eric Byrnes-impersonation and I decided to sprint for it, this time completely forgetting that after ten feet or so away from first base, the field starts sloping down and I think I went airborne for a good half second (with my legs still kicking in the air from running) and ended up eating it. The bad thing was that I was nowhere near where the ball ended up landing.

I might have a few more, but these were the ones that just popped in my head. I'm not that clumsy when playing sports, but random stuff just happens when I play them.

Not mine personally, but my one friend has one that's too good to not post:

8th grade basketball at home...last minute of the game, we're up by like 10 or 12. The other team was pressing. My friend (the inbounder) spots someone wide open around half court, so he winds up and overhand chucks the ball as hard as he can...right off the back of the backboard. It bounced off the backboard and the gym wall and then landed about a foot away from him.

Ball was being denied to me, so our Center came up and received the inbounds pass in the backcourt. Dude took off dribbling towards the other teams basket. Luckily I realized that he thought he was on a fast break all by himself, and ran up and blocked him, pinned the ball against the glass. We got the 10 second backcourt call, but at least I saved the 2 points...

                          Oh, and we lost... badly.
This is insane. The picture I get in my head is ridiculous. Did you really, truly, honestly, pin your own teammate's shot as he attempted to finish in the wrong basket? What was the crowd's reaction? Was that when you realized, "You know what, we're probably not in the same league as our opponents."? Even though it was your teammate, did the block still feel as great as it does when you normally pin someone on the glass? Did you tell him to get his weak stuff out of there?

Little league, Minor A so that was..4th grade?

Bases loaded, 2 outs and I was up to bat. I get the signs from 3rd and saw "bunt" so I waited and saw it again. I wasn't apparently paying attention so I thought "ok I got it twice, he wants a bunt from me".

Now before the game, we changed signs because the other team was picking up on them so the coach at the time decided it be best for that one game to have a new set. So obviously he was telling me to swing away when I forgot about the change, so I bunted like a moron and killed the rally for my own team

                            Day haunts me still.

When I lost in a tennis tournament about 7-8 years ago in the first round to a kid who I probably should have destroyed, despite being the #2 seed (or #3, can't remember).

It seriously has to rank up there with Michigan/App. State and Rams/Patriots in terms of historic sporting upsets. I still can't believe I lost to that kid.

I refuse to go into any more detail since the game was just a nightmare.
