Re: Could you go a week without digital devices?

Losing the cell phone would be no big deal. I could do without that. I don't even have it with me half the time, which pisses my friends off, but I don't care.

Losing my Xbox? It would suck, but it wouldn't be all too bad.

I could do without television, for sure.

Losing the internet/computer? That could be a problem. I waste way too much time on the internet each day.

I certainly could get by just fine on vacation (I was gone in Europe for a week this past summer and didn't use any electronic devices for the whole trip). However, for day-to-day life, while it could be done, it would also suck.

Yes I've done it quite a few times, much longer then a week. It wasn't by choice though.

Yeah, if we're talking outside of a vacation, it would be impossible due to my job. I'm expected to have my BlackBerry on me 24/7/365 (even Holidays...like this past Thanksgiving when I had the CEO calling me due to emails he wasn't receiving - I wanted to say "It's Thanksgiving! Don't worry about your email until tomorrow!" Unfortunately I wasted an hour tracking his email). If I had a choice, I'd LOVE to give up the BlackBerry. It's a ball and chain forcing me to work at all odd hours of the day/night.

I would have a hard time giving up TV. I could give up my PS3/360 without a problem. Same with my cellphone. Same with the internet. Not TV though. That's my weakness.

Yes, but only if I was with the people I am usually talking to. I wouldn't wanna just go without it and have no way to contact people.

I went about a month without internet, tv and video games back in my senior year when my parents moved way out in the country. All I can say is, it sucked. As for the question, Vacation yes, day to day life, no.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Internet, phone, computer, video games? Yes, easily.

                    TV? Not a chance.

No way. I need my phone and wouldnt be able to go a single day without it probably. Internet and PS3 no way. I dont really care much about tv, I could do without that.

And I wouldnt make it more than 10 feet down the road without my Ipod in the car.

I didn't have any of these devices until about ten years ago, when I was already well into my adulthood...

Wasn't interested to the point of scoffing at them...

                          Now?

The Internet, the PS3, the HDTV and the smartphone are in use every waking minute of every single day...

Usually more than one at a time...

                          So?

                          NO, THANK YOU!

                            Absolutely not.

I don't even want to think about it.

EDIT: Honeymoon might be the only exception. I think that sounds like an incredible idea, actually.

For the weekend I could manage without but not a full week.

Here's a question. What could you do without permanently? TV or Internet? I think I could do without tv since most shows and sports are on the web anyway.

Re: Could you go a week without digital devices?

                                I believe so.

                                1) I don't have cable anymore, so the only time I watch TV is during Sunday for football.
                                2) Haven't had a computer for months, though I do hop on my brother's every now and then to check FaceBook and my bank account, as well as research.

So that eliminates TV and internet (partly). I don't use my phone to get on Facebook, etc like the teenage/20's generation, but just use it to communicate i.e. "I'm on my way home", "Thaw out the meat", "What's going on tonight?". So those are more "necessary" things then for entertainment, but I could always use the land line from work before I leave. If that doesn't count.

Really the one thing it would be hard to give up is the PS3. I can give up the gaming for a week, and I enjoy that because I really enjoy my games more when I haven't played them in a while. But I browse from my PS3 and watch Netflix on it, and along with gaming, that's how I spend most of my downtime.

It would be tough, for sure. There'd be a lot of boredom.
