Do you let your car warm up when it's cold outside?

Curious, do you guys let your car warm up when it's cold outside? I've always been told I'm supposed to but never knew how long exactly it should warm up. My parents say till the needle moves. I've heard until it's idling steadily (which isn't long). But I've driven it cold with really no issues. Is it really even necessary?

Sometimes. It depends, before work usually. But if I'm getting off work or just going out in general then no. I will start my car and wait a minute and then drive though when I do not warm it up.

When I was in High School and drove a 79 GMC Sierra I would. Now I don't really see the point. Well, not with a newer vehicle in Louisiana anyway. If the temp ever dropped below freezing I might consider it though.

I usually start the car, then go out to scrape the ice off the windows and/or clean the snow off the car. By the time I'm going back into the car it's warmed up. If there's no need for that, I would usually wait about a minute or so.

When I ride go to school, I always warm it up for about 10 minutes while I'm getting ready inside.

^^ 10 minutes, eh? Maybe I should let my car warm up more than I usually do when there's no snow to scrape.

Do you guys (who live in cold places) find that you spend more money on gas in the winter?

Even back in Ohio during the morning, I never warmed up my car, even when it had snow and ice on it, only on rare occasions when I couldn't see because my windshield was iced over would I. Really the cold never bothered me enough to make me have to warm up my car.

I'm amazed sometimes when I see some people driving with snow covering half of their front windshield and all the rear one, not to mention that you can barely see their head/back lights...

If that's in response, i never said i didn't clear my car off

I'm not a crazy person I just never bothered to heat my car up unless it was necessary to thaw ice on my windshield.

Depends if the windows are frosted over or not

No. I park inside a garage so it doesn't normally get too cold at home, and then when I'm out somewhere I just want to get going so I don't mess with it.

Well I can't drive but as for everyone in my immediate family, yes, yes we do let the car warm up and even then it's not warm enough!

I usually let it idle 30 seconds to a minute unless there's frost/ice issues. I'm in Houston, so that's usually not the case.

I try to, but most days I run late and don't have time to do it.
