All last week up here the actual temperature was a -4 from sunset to sunrise. When it gets that cold you got to let your car warm up a couple of minutes. When my uncle owned an auto repair shop on up until last year when he retired, he would get 3 dozen cars a week during the winter time from southern transplants who moved up here and didn't let their car warm up. It messes up the engine because when oil gets that cold during the winter time up north from sitting over night, it clumps up and don't flow as easily and fast as it normally do.

So if your engine not getting the oil like it normally do, it will cause all kinds of problems. Therefore you really letting your car warm up for the oil in your car to warm up for it can flow freely. Especially if your car uses regular oil.
Yeah that's a problem here in Alaska too. That and your battery dying.

I will agree with that. In my opinion anything below Zero or maybe 10 degrees you should give you car about 5 minutes or so to warm up. Any more than that and eventually you could up with a plugged converter.

i dont let mine warm up, not needed and i have seen people leave there cars running for 10-15 minutes only to come out and see that an oil seal hav gone and run the car out of oil, if they were in it/driving it they may have shut it off in time to save their engine

If I have a long drive somewhere and I don't want to be sitting in the cold for a long time I will. I have a 4 minute drive to school so I usually don't.

I tell ya.. That drives me absolutely INSANE when people don't clean their cars off.. I get very upset... It's a simple task that takes a few minutes to do.. I really think people should get pulled over for that nonsense.. It's unsafe and deserves a fine... Especially if it's snow.. The snow could freeze and then you have chunks of ice flying around..

Oh back on topic... I warm my car up only in the winter here in Maine.. Summer,Spring,&Fall not so much... I have 147,000 miles on my truck so it's not hurting it... Only thing I had to do is normal wear and tear parts like belts, Brakes, etc etc

I got one of those big snow scrapers with the huge brush on the end just to make sure I can get the snow off of my car and it doesn't blind anyone behind me. It's funny because the brush takes up like my whole back seat in my little two door car... lol... it's clearly a scraper built for trucks.

I drive an '99 Grand Am, with 150k miles on it.

In Detroit it's obviously really, really, cold. I usually get in, turn it on, then play with the radio or my phone for a minute before I'm ready to go. I'd guess I sit there for 30 seconds to a minute.

Ha. I also have a scraper with a brush - it's always in my car. I think I left it there even during the summer... I also have a shovel always with me. It can be handy at times.
