She insists on having that stuff sent there...when I began to have my bank statement sent here and not there, she threatened to shut my phone of and claimed I was doing it because I was "hiding something from her". Now she'll go to our bank and ask them for my statements. Our accounts aren't even linked either.

Anyway, I think once my OVR hits 10, I'll reward myself by becoming a OS Supporter. Not sure yet.

Anything that is in your name, send it to wherever you are. Let your mom cut your phone off, you can always get another one, but building up a good credit score is not so easy.

So let's play the hypothetical game.



If you signed a 6-month lease with someone and moved halfway through the lease, would you expect the person who moved to still pay half the utilities after they moved away?


I've been through this situation before. I signed a 2-year lease for my final 2 years at Alabama and moved to another state with 3 months left in the lease. I paid my half of the rent and didn't cover half of the utilities because I wasn't living there. My roommate was completely okay with that. Everyone I've seen go through this where they had to move mid-lease did the same thing. Paid rent, but that was all.

I guess it depends on how much the utilities cost. The person leaving is kind of putting their roommate in a lurch with the potential 'extra' expense. If its just electric, then I wouldn't think it would be a problem. You'd think they wouldn't mind paying the utilties since they're getting extra space, but paying the same rent.

Maybe they could sublet if they needed the money that bad?

Agreed. Make damn sure any and all bills come to you. She doesn't have any business looking at bank statements either. Unless, of course, he's still getting an allowance from her.

Power and cable are the utilities to be paid each month solo. I'm covering the rental of the washer/dryer and our water bill is part of the rent.

His parents are covering his rent, so I feel no pity for having to pay the utilities solo. If he were paying everything, I'd feel differently.
