A 3rd party that I didn't know knew details of the situation (#TeamGirlB obviously told her) got drunk and told #TeamGirlA about everything. Now Beantown is in scramble mode trying to save #TeamGirlA's interest while trying to make sure #TeamGirlB doesn't hate me to the point that work sucks.

See, here's the thing. #TeamGirlA is still in play, with about 98% certainty on my part. Her and I had a two hour conversation last night talking about everything and it's not ruined. She wasn't mad I hooked up with another girl, she was mad that I lied about it and that she was still hitting on me in front of B because now she feels like a bitch.

Basically, I need to make sure #TeamGirlB is 10000000% done and that the group of people from work can hang out without things being awkward between the triangle. If I can do those with some quickness and success, who knows.

All I know is I did not realize #TeamGirlA liked me as much as she did until last night and that sucks even more.

Sounds like you're making the situation more than what it is. Go to #teamgirlb and display some humble pie. "I'm sorry, I should've been honest. I was confused, yada yada etc". You save face as a decent guy, she can go tell everyone you apologized and was sincere, thus saving face w/ everyone else.

Tell girl a she's not a bitch b/c she didn't know, say you're an *** b/c you shoulda been honest and now you feel like a jerk because you've split the work place, etc yada yada. You bring the pity from her to you, she'll apologize to you, and all will be well.

Taking a break never works and I'll tell you why...

I went down that road. We took a break and got back together but it just wasn't the same between us. Trust issues were there now and you can't be with someone and have those. You'll fight over the most pointless crap.


I say the next thing knowing it's cliche but it is true. EVERY female is crazy. Not a matter of if, but how much. My ex is quite crazy. My new girlfriend is a little crazy, but not enough to be a big deal. Seems to me judging by that break up via the text move that your ex may be quite crazy.

Oh, I know breaks don't work. I've read it enough on here. That's why I knew it was leading down this path of being broken up, but I had to try for myself. Trust issues... hmm, I don't know. I'm honest with myself, if I find myself distrusting her or didn't think I could accept that she's done this with me now and she can do it in the future, I wouldn't pursue her. Love is taking a leap. A lot of people get burned, some don't.

Oh, I know how crazy girls can be. I've pulled that line on her multiple times and it kills her. But I know ALL girls are crazy, and there's a level you are forced to accept because the pro's outweigh the crazy. So far, that's been true of our relationship until now. She did what "normal everyday girl" does and went on a break and left something so good, so that places her up there with the other crazies.

@Slick I know you love her man, but you're young. Every man has to go through heartbreak at some point (at least I have). The way she did you ain't right at all. No one ever believes this when in the moment, but you'll find someone even better. Trust me.

Yeah, I've been lucky to be spared from heartbreak my entire life. And I think I have been done pretty dirty, as my friends will likely be telling me (just now changed my FB status to "single"). I do believe I could find someone better if this is how this ends, but I need closure before I move on. I'm still hanging on to hope.

Slick, the only offense she could commit that would make it easy to move on is kill you. Seriously, it is almost impossible to commit an offense so egregious
that 5 years suddenly means nothing.

But from the outside, she did just about the most egregious thing she could have done.

It's been said before, and it will be said again (all with good reason) that you need to drop this *****. Someone who ends a 5 year relationship through a text doesn't deserve 5 minutes of anyone's time. And besides, logic (something people inside the situation rarely can see) dictates that she is not going to remain with you forever. It hurts now, but when you catch her cheating or she leaves 5 years from now, it gonna hurt more than twice as bad.

I don't think I'll catch her cheating. She's actually very protective of her body, as she was a virgin until 18 (RARE these days). We took each other's v-cards. lol. I can't just drop her ***, it's not doing the last 5 years of my life justice. I'm trying to play by the rules, but I'm the only one who is. And yeah, even though we're single now, the only way I'd leave her is if she said straight up "We are not getting back together," or she ****ed someone even though she's single. I wouldn't be angry, it would actually just make it a much cleaner cut.

Slick, you lucky dog, you. You get to be single again; that is awesome. So many new people to meet and adventures to be had. Color me jealous.

Ha, it's a new situation for me. I have thought about my future and being single and all the cool things I can do and get myself into. It's impossible to not think of what lies ahead if I remain single. But I just want my girl back... and until I know those chances are dead, I'll hold off on being a pimp.

Being together for 5 years and being engaged to her and her breaking up through a text message is egregious enough. She doesnt give a damn about you. If she did, she'd (wo)man up from the beginning.

Much easier said then done. I've been on the opposite end of this spectrum, giving advice and telling guys to just move on as it's for the best. From this view, though, ****... I'm torn up.

Slick, I think most of us have been in a situation similar to yours. The first one is hard as hell to get through and get over and nobody wants to listen to reason or any logic because it goes against what our hearts want. I'm not going to fault you for laying down and letting her walk across you because that's usually the way it goes for the first real, serious break-up.

With that said, Slick, you need to stop thinking about what you want and think about what you need. You don't need her right now because she doesn't need you. She needs space? You need space. You need to stop talking to her altogether. Yeah, its hard, but you need to law down some boundaries or else she's just going to milk this little stunt for as long as she can. If you keep talking to her she's just going to pollute your thought-process and warp your reason and logic. You need to sit down, slow things down, and really think about what she has done and how she is treating you. You need to get pissed because that is the only logical emotion for what she is doing. Put on some Nine Inch Nails, think about everything she has done and is doing and just throw **** at her name. It really does help. Even if you don't mean half of it it helps thinking about things from a different angle. You need to place a fair share of blame on her or else she's just gonna keep you wrapped around her finger until she "comes around" - whenever that will be.

Take time for yourself, Slick. Get through this by yourself, its the only way. If she truly does have stuff she needs to pick up, then box it up for her. Make her set a time and place to pick it up instead of worrying about if and when she'll come and get it. Lay down some law and stick to it and make her follow it too. I know very well that it is hard (as do most of us here), but its the only thing you can do. She said she wants space, but she keeps texting and asking to be friends? She's moved on it seems like and you need to start that process.

Best post so far and I really appreciate it. And really, moving on with my life without completely exiling her from my heart was what I finally settled on yesterday (well, Friday night/Saturday afternoon after a talk with my family). I was going to play it cool. Then I get a text, and I'm back to square one.

She wants her cake and eat it too. I've just got to man up and take my cake and leave that bitch starving.

Okay, I'm learning.

But yeah, listening to music has been my ultimate release. Yeah I mix some corny love songs in there but I've got a lot of hard stuff with biting lyrics too. This has kind of helped reintroduce me to a lot of my old music and a lot of new music. So if there's one positive, that's been it.

Thanks to everyone for their takes and advice. I'm not gonna lie, I'll take her back if it works out that way (and I see it going that way but you never know). But I also can't wait around... I really just need this time to myself and need to forget about her a bit without completely forgetting her, hang out with my boys (been doing a lot of that actually), listen to a ton of music, do myself and start to think of my future as just myself & I because it could come down to it. I always thought and knew I could do it on my own so now it's time to start putting that into practice. We'll see what happens. I'm sure I'll be in here with an update when the time comes.
