My dad and brother's presents are in plastic Target bags and my mom's is a print-out from the website I bought it from because it hasn't arrived yet. This is par for the course. When expectations are low, you can get away with it.

Everyone close to me understands my aversion to wrapping things. This doesn't make me a bad person.

Right now, we're having our annual A Christmas Story viewing.

I've never had a problem wrapping gifts, it's all in how you fold the paper. Map it out so you have more than enough, then fold triangles and tape them down.

It's not hard at all, I just don't buy into the whole dog and pony show of the unwrapping of things, lol. I'm already expected to partake in blatant consumerism. I like to pick my battles and draw a line.

I can wrap surprisingly well, for a guy..

I helped my mom wrap some of my niece's gifts this year.

I used to be horrible at wrapping gifts, but I got better with practice. When I lived at home, I'd help my mom wrap gifts for my cousins and each year it became less obvious which gift's I'd wrapped.

I lead the employee committee at work and I was tasked with shopping for gifts for all 115 of my co-workers, which meant I had to help wrap them too..

I wasn't that good before, but now I'm great at it..

Being that most Chicago schools in the 80s and 90s required all your school books to be covered, I got quite damn good at wrapping stuff. And back then, book covers came on long rolls just like christmas wrapping paper.

I had a teacher in 8th grade that required it. I used a brown paper sack, from a local grocery store...

She was a nightmare, though... I don't even know how to explain how bad she was. The school had to stop her from giving out homework, because she was so harsh. I was lucky, because we got her the first year she had to stop and we could only do her work in class...

Reading and hearing some of the nightmare Christmas stories from people, I wonder if I'm somewhat lucky to be on the other side of the country from all of my family besides my mom.

I guess it depends on how you feel about your' family.

I love both sides of my family and everyone gets along great. I'd hate to know I had to force being nice to anyone. I have several cousins who are close to me in age, so we get along great.

I don't dislike anyone in my family either, but even some of the people who have good family relationships seem to be taxed during Thanksgiving/Christmas time.

I don't like it because everyone else is stressed. I'm like, "it's just Christmas calm down."

People who hate Xmas are generally ruining it for themselves

Good point, starting from about 7th grade my teachers always required us to have book covers, I usually just made them out of store bought brown paper bags. That's probably where I learned to wrap.

Also, I don't like the holidays because of visiting family, but it's more of an anxiety issue than a "disliking my family" issue. Last year my dad convinced me that no one went to restaurants on new years, then I nearly had a panic attack in the waiting area. A few years earlier he told me on Turkey day it would be just me, him, my step mom, my step brother, and my sister. I got there and noticed a jumbo table with about 20 spots set, anxiety-fest ensued. I've become sour.
