Re: Off Topic 2011
Anyway, don't wanna get into any religious debates that'll get this thing locked, but some guy just knocked on my door saying he's a "witness" and he wanted to read me part of the Bible. What!? I'm not religious and I had no idea what he was talking about. He kept asking me religious questions or asking if I knew this or that and he'd go onto read sections of the Bible. I sat there for 25-30 minutes with this guy before he gave me a book on why I should read the Bible. That was weird, but I didn't wanna be rude and tell him to go away.Comment

Got a question -
I want to start following the MLB closely again. Growing up I was a Mariners fan (I loved Griffey Jr) but I also liked the Rangers (weird I know) as I got older, I just started following the Rangers only. Eventually, I stopped following the MLB period (as well as the NBA). My question is, I want to go back to following baseball and of course the Rangers, but now I would seem like a bandwagon fan with their success last year.
What do you guys think?Comment

Re: Off Topic 2011
Husker knows what's up.
I actually say coke and soda, but usually just coke. It's really just a regional thing. People from the south say coke. I picked up the term when I lived in Texas when I was a kid, but I'm not a "Southerner" just to be clear. Nor do I have a southern accent.

edit: Well, I would have said I wasn't interested and if that didn't work.. then I would be rude.Comment

Re: Off Topic 2011
And what's funnier is there's only one "right" way to speak the language. You know how when we learn foreign languages we try to get the accent right? Imagine a bunch of rural Chinese kids who're moving to Alabama, trying to pick up a southern accentComment

Re: Off Topic 2011
I'm friends with a girl from Houston, and we joke with each other about how we pronounce certain words, or what we call certain things. It's easy to win one of those little joke arguments since I know her trump card...
SpoilerShe can't say oatmeal. She says it "oak-meal."Comment

Re: Off Topic 2011
It's sad because once you escape , there's the slight southern accent that just means "hey at one point this guy lived in the South, but he still uses big words and has a degree"...and then there's the Southern dialect which means "Hey this guy has a law degree, when he speaks , he pronounces three letters simultaneously, and even though he has a law degree it's from the south; he's basically got a junior high education."Comment
