2) Same thing, but with Holocaust jokes and not knowing if someone's Jewish. And for the record, Matrix is not Jewish. But he is convincing.

It's hard to have longevity without talent...prime example: Soulja Boy. Had one hit song/platinum album and has since fallen off the face of the earth. The song wasn't even that great (catchy, not great), it just got popular because of the dance that came with it.

He's not breaking any barriers lyrically, but he holds his own.

Soulja Boy was not a one hit wonder. Soulja Boy was a gimmick. MIMS and Jim Jones were one hit wonders as far as hip hop goes. Hip Hop is the only genre where you have gimmick artists.

Soulja Boy was not a one hit wonder. Soulja Boy was a gimmick. MIMS and Jim Jones were one hit wonders as far as hip hop goes. Hip Hop is the only genre where you have gimmick artists.

Ehh, I guess you're right. MIMS I agree with, but at least Jim Jones has been sort of relevant because of his stuff with Dipset.

Listening to Late Registration and MBDTF is night and day. Late Registration is light years ahead of MBDTF. Even the "throw away" track in Drive Slow is amazing, and beats the **** out of anything Twisted Fantasy.

And there's no secret why, he actually had something to say other than "**** Y'all" back then. Another reason why I think mixtapes/constant streams of albums are bad for artists.

Heard 'Em Say/Touch The Sky/Golddigger is probably my favorite 3 song sequence on an album. All 3 of those songs are just fantastic. Touch The Sky being among my favorites.

Rap doesn't particularly suck. But when you have douchebags invading the genre and convincing everyone that you're fresh, hip, and good and everyone and their mother's starts quoting and and referencing your stupid *** songs and lyrics, then that's what makes it suck.

Luckily there is lots of talent out there. Too bad they dont dominate the hype machine like he does.

You're right, really...

I should have been a little more specific.

I actually like some hip hop/rap, but it's few and far between.. the majority of the (God I hate this word..) mainstream artists just aren't good.

Late Registration is by far his best CD...MBDTF was good, but not near as good as Late Registration (or College Dropout, or Graduation). I was shocked at all the 10/10, 5-star reviews MBDTF got.

My thing with rap, and maybe I haven't been exposed to enough of the "good stuff", is that a whole lot of what I've ever listened to seems to have a very narrow subject matter. Something to the effect of "I am awesome / I have a lot of money / I am attractive to women / I could potentially end another person's life should he do wrong by me" Which is fine and dandy, but not particularly interesting.

For instance, I really like (and this may be typical given where I first heard the track) the rap tune "They Reminisce Over You" from this year's Madden NFL 12 soundtrack. It's a chill vibe, lyrically interesting, and has a good beat and flow to it, IMO.

Of course, that I would name my favorite rapper as Eminem might fly in the face of everything I said in the first paragraph, but I digress.
