Washington State Correctional Officer murdered by inmate

I work as a Correctional Officer. This one cuts deep and the rage and anger I feel inside can't really be expressed through words.

The inmate who killed her is on a life without parole sentence. He had been tried and convicted of three rapes, and set one of the women in fire. He worked ALONE in the chapel where she was posted. How can a department be so reckless? So stupid? It's criminal.

The Department of Corrections will call it an escape attempt, but it wasn't. The layout of the facility shows that the inmate had no chance. He wanted to rape her and she fought him, so he killed her. The department has blood on their hands.

The worst part? The inmate will be charged with second degree murder, taking the death penalty off of the table. Since he's already LWOP, he won't be punished for this. He'll be shipped out of state some where and spend the rest of his life in protective custody, in a cozy cell with a television and three square meals a day.

I just read the article and that is terrible. It really sucks that they probably won't be able to charge him with first degree murder too. He deserves to die.

He's an animal.

Now, the department is just playing a blame game. Our union blames them, the state blames budget cuts, etc... It's stupid. The bottom line is that a horrific sex offender was allowed to work inside of a chapel as a janitor where a female officer worked.

What did they think would happen?

Our justice system is an absolute joke and I am sick and effing tired of it. We don't protect our people. This man raped and set a woman on fire and he served 12 years. 12. Years. Then he gets out and does it again. Then, the geniuses decide to allow him to work in a building alone with a female officer.

I'm just disgusted. I am ashamed.

He needs to immediately be put down. Yes like an animal. That is not a human being.

Our actions separate us from man/animal. Those who act like animals should be treated like them.

Putting him down or giving him his own cell is the easy way out.

I say blow both his knee caps off and let him bleed to death.

It may be harsh and you may think I'm sick.. but some people deserve to die in the worst way, for being sick sick individuals.

I can't give you a real response, because it's against T.O.S., but I don't seriously think that's a possibility.. and I wouldn't seriously do it to someone. I'm just saying that some people don't deserve an easy way out.

This is sad. I have an uncle who works South Carolina Corections. I will be giving him a call today. I hope that her family will eventually be okay. Truely a sad story.

It will stay open until someone says something to get it closed.

Also the guy that runs DOC isn't good at job.

So tragic.

Worst part is that it could have been easily avoided.

Not that any amount of money could ever bring her back, but I hope the responsible parties are sued for everything that they have.

I have crazy respect for correctional officers! I've watched a lot of "Lockdown" on MSNBC and it's seriously crazy all the crap they have to deal with, especially when all the prison systems are so understaffed.

This guy is life without chance of parole all ready, nothing's really stopping or deterring him from doing this stuff. It's sad, but true. His life is all ready crap, so killing someone else doesn't have any consequence.

Big thanks to the people out there who put themselves at risk in the prison system, I think a lot of people forget how dangerous this really can be.
