Unbelievable. How can you be so negligent? And why don't correctional officers have weapons?

Very sad story.

I'm not in favor in officers carrying firearms, as you can imagine the repercussions if an inmate(s) get a hold of the weapon...

We have tower and perimeter officers that have firearms. That's it.

I do wish they would at least give us OC (highly concentrated pepper spray).

If they would just quit placing officers in ridiculously dangerous situations, things like this could be avoided.

He needs to immediately be put down. Yes like an animal. That is not a human being.

Our actions separate us from man/animal. Those who act like animals should be treated like them.

I am in total agreement, but the police reports already state that he'll be charged with murder in the second.

No death penalty.

By the time this is over, the family of the slain officer will get millions and millions (rightfully so) and the inmate will not be punished -- how do you punish someone with a life without parole sentence without giving them the death penalty?

It's sickening.

I get what you're saying, but...

This is not a human being here. He feels no remorse for what he's done. He asked for a tetanus shot because the officer had bitten his hand while fighting for her life.

His second rape involved setting the woman on fire after he was done with her, leaving her for dead. She lived, but her life is over.

He has shown no regard for human life, so I am at a loss on showing any type of regard for his. That's harsh, but this crap is happening all over the country and the bottom line is that our "kinder, gentler" prison system is not the answer.

Make examples out of these animals.

I fully admit that a lot of what I say and feel right now is triggered by a great deal of anger and other emotions, but I just can't get over the fact that this guy is still drawing breath and draining tax payer dollars.

I'm just done with people like this.

I don't understand "life without parole" for violent crimes. I mean, what's the point, really? That the inmate will be come rehabilitated and become a model inmate or something? It's especially sickening in a situation like this. Because nothing more can happen to the guy and I'm sure if given the chance, he'll do something like this again. And what more can they do to him? Nothing.

I reject the idea that nothing more can be done. They can always make an inmates life harder.

Brother, an inmate's life is not all that bad in prison.

At least in Washington State...

There is no real punishment for him here. If he doesn't get capital punishment, nothing will be done.

He'll get shipped out of state and live the rest of his life in protective custody. He'll still get his television, he'll still get his three squares meal per day, he'll still get his free medical coverage.

Sad to hear this, and even more sad to hear the blame game going on. Someone needs to take responsibility for putting the officer in that position.

Alright, so you're alright with taking the low road, and becoming as animalistic by brutally and mercilessly torturing him, instead of taking the high road and let whatever God you believe in deal with it? I'm saying kill him, but in a humane matter. Let heaven/hell/nirvana/whatever deal with him.

The state screwed up and should be on the hook for millions of dollars paid to the family. He is mentally ill; that much is evident, but the state was so negligent in allowing him the opportunity to hurt another woman.

That's where most of my anger comes from.
