    Re: College Help/Advice

Go to LSU. If it doesn't work out then you go somewhere else.

I'm a fan of the community college route, especially if you are going to be taking on a $50,000 loan.

What are you planning on majoring in (as others have asked)? How do FSU and LSU compare in those fields?

If LSU was drastically better in that program (and you're actually going to stick with it), then I'd consider there, but otherwise if FSU has a good program you'd probably be happy there too, and cheaper.

Just don't go to FSU if you absolutely hate it, like others have said you want to be happy so you'll get good grades and everything.

Yeah it's not that I don't hate FSU I actually liked the area and stuff, but I just loved the LSU campus and area a lot. Tough choice either way tho cause I think i'd enjoy either one I picked, which is prolly why i'm leaning toward FSU right now since it's cheaper

Yeah I'm looking into either being a Teacher or a Athletic training, i've tried to look it up but i've found no reliable way to compare the 2 in terms of how good they are.

          I'm stuck between two schools.

Hey all, I know this is somewhat of a selfish thread, but I need to get something off of my chest. Basically to sum it up, I have a decision to make between to colleges. Those two are Virginia Tech and Penn State. I got into both for engineering. Both are great schools, and I can't seem to lean to the left or right. I've visited both and have loved both. Here is the catch. I've been wanting to go to VT my entire life. I'm a senior in high school right now, and when I started high school I wanted to do whatever it took to get into Virginia Tech. My dad went there and ran for the cross country team, my brother goes there, as does one of my sisters who is also on the cross country team currently. Basically, my family is full of Hokies. I'm an avid fan of Virginia Tech sports. I've been to numerous football games and get chills every time I hear Enter Sandman. I've even been a follower of their basketball team. So with all of those factors, it's hard for me not to choose VT (who I declared early decision with but I'll get to that later). Any who, I've been an avid fan ever since I was young and have taken my fair share of crap from Auburn and Alabama fans when it comes to college football and being an ACC fan. So if anyone is still reading this, why wouldn't I go to VT? Originally, I wanted to be an architect (VT is a top 5 program). However, the unpredictable economy kind of scared me off, and I wanted to be credited for my work while working for some big firm. Also, I'm not particularly great with drawing, but I'm very creative on the computer. So now I'm looking towards becoming an engineer of sorts, which is how I got into VT. I was originally leaning towards civil or materials, but I keep getting criticized for wanting to get into civil, and not following through with architecture. Now for Penn State. I went ahead and visited right before my senior year started and loved it. I loved the idea of having my own school and not following the recent trend in my family (my eldest sister actually went to Purdue and not VT). However, I wondered if I could abandon the school that I rooted for all these years and dreamed of going to. I applied to PSU and got into engineering as well. Here is the big catch. PSU offers architectural engineering, while VT doesn't. How did I get into this whole building/structure thing? Well I loved making, replicating, and designing baseball stadiums. When I was a kid I loved drawing them (I can't tell you how many times I drew Wrigley when I was younger). From there, I fell in love with buildings in general. Architectural engineering is something I think I should pursue. I've done my research, and apparently is specialized to a degree where there is a high job demand. Also, PSU has one of the best architectural engineering programs in the world. Thus, my head has been spinning ever since I got into PSU. I have no idea what to do, so I thought I may post my story that probably no one on the internet cares about. But hey, it's worth a shot. I would appreciate any input. Maybe I should of made this a blog entry...

This. State Patty's is amazing (and I'll be there again this year).

Other than Duke I couldn't think of a school I'd rather go to than Penn State.

This is a tough decision but I would go with Penn State just for the fact they have architectural engineering and it seems that it would be perfect for you based on what was giving to us.

                  That is tough.

                  Two great schools.

As cliche as this sounds, go with your heart. Make a list of pro's and cons and see which school comes out on top. Remember though, if architectural engineering is what you want to do with your life, Penn State wins in an absolute landslide. College is only four years, but your career will sustain you and your future family financially for the rest of your life.

Bottom line, would you rather say, "I'm an architectural engineer and I love it," or would you rather say, "I'm still doing something I like and I went to my dream school..."

If it were me, going off the information you wrote about, I'd have a hard time not going to Penn State.

At the end of the day, I doubt you'd regret either decision.

                  Good luck!

                      Re: College Help/Advice

You have mentioned one being cheaper, and talked about a loan. So I assume you aren't a millionaire.

If you want to be a teacher or athletic trainer, why go off and spend the extra $20,000+ the first two years? Unless you are just dead set on goin to a major university as a freshman. No one WANTS to go to juco or community college, but it will make you a lot happier when you are paying half of what you would on student loans. Especially since you won't be making a large amount.

I don't think you could go wrong with either and if all else fails you could always stay at home and go to UAH. They have a pretty good engineering program

By all means make your college decision based on what member of OS say. Especially great advice given as to what is the best party school.

I'm glad there's still people out there that want to teach. Having said that, have fun paying off student loans and grants with a teacher's salary. Hope you like ramen noodles.
