    College Help/Advice

So I've been struggling with this for awhile now and just looking for any advice or anything.

I've been accepted into LSU and FSU. I live in Florida so I get instate tuition/house which roughly comes out to around $80K for 4 years at FSU, LSU roughly will cost somewhere in the $100K range for out of state tuition/housing.

Paying for it won't be much of a problem as I qualify for a $50k Grant and up to $50k in a loan if needed so it's just a matter of how much debt I want to have to pay back eventually. With FSU I also have a scholarship for 75% reduction on tuition only. I'm just torn because the smart thing says just go to FSU as it's cheaper, but I've always wanted to go to LSU for as long as I can remember and I would love to leave the state of FL.

Any advice/opinions would be very welcome if anyone actually read that all.

    Florida State, no question.

I always wanted to go to WVU, but they don't offer my major and it's out-of-state, so there was no doubt I was going to NC State.

A $50K student loan could haunt you for years.

Hey, I'm a senior also and going through the application process.

It might depend a bit on what you're interested in studying, but FSU does seem like the smart decision money-wise. If LSU is your absolute dream school, though, I would go to LSU. You can only go to college once, you might as well go where you want. You have a couple of months I would guess to make this decision, so it should really come down to how badly you really want to go to LSU over FSU.

As for me, I'm into Boston College and SMU, but I won't know until April 1 on Michigan, Cornell, and Emory...that leaves me with only a month to make a decision, which probably won't be too easy. The advice I've always been given is that college is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and that I should go wherever I will be happiest. If you will be happier at LSU and can handle the financial burden, then you should go there. Also, you can look into getting a job to pay off some of that loan in order to take off some of the post-graduation burden.

I could go on about this topic for hours, but I'll keep it simple. Seems like LSU is the school you want to be at.

So if I were you, that's where I'd go.

You don't want to have any regrets when it comes to college, so don't start by making a mistake on your first initial decision. If you want to get out of Florida and want to go to LSU, listen to the guys above me and just go. Things have a way of working themselves out.

As long as you do what you're supposed to do when you're in school, you should be fine. That's provided you don't end up studying something that's going to make it difficult for you to find a job in. But if you go for the four years, keep your grades up, you should have no trouble getting a job and starting off in the real world on the right foot.

            It depends on two things.

            1) What are you studying/how does each school fair in notoriety?
            2) What are the prospects for the job market when you graduate?

As long as those things take care of themselves, goto where you want to go.

I would say follow your heart and go where you think you'll be happiest. Also, trust your gut. Have you made visits to both schools? Sometimes you'll just get a gut feeling that this is where you want to go or maybe you don't really want to go here. When I was looking at colleges, I didn't really have anywhere in particular in mind except that I was looking at smaller, rural private colleges. I pretty much fell in love with Allegheny College the moment I first set foot on campus for my visit and knew that's where I wanted to go. My years there were some of the best of my life. All the schools I looked at were in Pennsylvania so out of state stuff wasn't an issue for me, but really you're gonna be in debt no matter what. I say go to LSU because if you are somewhere where you are happy then you are more likely to have a positive experience, get a good education, and get a great job where you can make good money to pay off those debts.

Me personally I rather not pay back more then I would have to, you never know what your life after college may end up like as some people aren't able to get a job right away an to know that you would have to pay back more by going to LSU well that would annoy me so I would go to FSU.

Someone once told me not to let money get in the way of doing what you want to do, at least as much as you can possibly afford to do so.

If you want to go to LSU and the ONLY thing you are worried about is money, I'd advise that you go there. That said, consideration of what you want to study in college might be a factor you want to look into more, as I'm sure LSU and FSU will have different academic strengths.

Go to the school that makes you happy, but at least really look into FSU, because they both seem like awesome schools to go too. It's not like your choosing between LSU and a small commuter school. And I think leaving the state just for the sake of leaving the state is overrated. If after visiting them and doing your research you really want LSU go there, but at least look into your options.

Yeah all good advice, right now i'm leaning toward FSU. More affordable, still has the programs I want to do, city was alright, more people I know are going there. My opinion of it changes almost everday so hopefully soon enough I can make a decision I can live with.

I went FSU and have a great job. Both schools are going to be looked at the same and even UF is viewed the same as FSU, although they claim not to be.

It all depends what area you are planing to major in and how much money you will be making. If there isn't the potential for a large salary, that 20,000 is going to take a long time to pay off. Then you want to buy a house in the future, cars, etc.

I would look at going to FSU for 2 years and transfer if you don't like it.
