    Re: Are You Superstitious?

In HS football it was even worse, I had to wear the same socks, gloves, listen to the same playlist before them game, etc. THen of course if I had a bad game i'd try to switch it up the next week by wearing sleeves or something.

I used to wear my Dale Earnhardt Jr. ballcap every raceday starting last year. Since he's been struggling, I quit wearing it, and he got the pole for this year's 500. (Although he started last after a practice crash).

So now the hat's put away.......I feel like I jinx him when I wear it....

            I wouldn't say that I'm superstitious. Maybe a little-stitious.

              Re: Are You Superstitious?

I am, but not as bad as I used to be. When I was a teen, I had a rule called "That's an or-elser." What that meant was that I had to do something a certain way "or else." I don't even know what the "or else" meant, but it was just a superstition that if I didn't do it as my mind said, something bad would happen.

An example would be as I'm walking out the house to touch a piece of furniture a certain way "or else." I also had a superstition that I would have to count to 21 when i laid eyes on something and couldn't look away until I did so. As some mentioned, there is a hint of OCD in superstition. I do struggle with OCD but not in a major way. I tend to check the doors to see if they are locked, check the stove and make sure everything is off.

My only ritual in baseball was to step on and smear the fresh chalk on the baselines when I went in to pitch. I like to be different.

My only superstition is to not talk positively about a performance until it's done. Like if I'm playing poker or euchre and have a sizable lead, I'm not going to brag or I'll jinx it. If I'm watching a game and my team is winning, I keep my mouth shut and become pessimistic, otherwise karma might say "oh yea? take THIS!"

When the Bears were in the playoffs for the two games at Soldier Field I attended I wore the same exact clothes, same order of layers and everything.

When I played baseball and we took the field I never touched the 3rd or 1st base line either..

In HS, the whole athletic program had one superstition it seemed. Before every game/meet we had to take a number 2. Every bathroom would be filled from the time school ended til the game with athletes. It was weird.

I heard Dennis O'leary talk about how he and his son sat in the same two chairs throughout the 2004 playoffs in baseball. The refused to switch seats or position them differently all the way until the Red Sox won it all. He then mentioned in 2007 they were like, "Who the hell cares where we sit..." I thought that was funny.

Yeah forgot another one, we'd sometimes before big game or if we lost a couple we'd get small mohawks so if we won we'd keep them until we lost same thing with beards.

                                I'm the opposite

If I'm losing you'll still hear about how great I am and that I will come back
