    Re: OS Cars Thread

Got my new car on Friday, an '04 Suzuki Forenza. I'm very impressed with it so far...rides really nice and I love having the features that my old car didn't have (keyless entry and auto lights being the best for me). Bought it with only 57,700 miles on it so I hope to have it for awhile.

So I currently drive an 05 Blazer. Its got 2 doors and I have 2 kids. I like the roominess of it but its a pain with the doors. I'm looking to pick up a crossover or possibly a wagon. Preferably an 08 model. Right now its a toss up between the Chevy Equinox which is a midsize Suv. Only downside is its not much of an upgrade on fuel economy. My other choice is the Dodge Magnum. Its a Wagon so its got room and a lot better gas milage. Only drawback is it sits lower to the ground. My darkhorse though is the Dodge Caliber which is a midsize as well. But the fuel economy is between the other 2.

Does anyone have any experience driving these vehicles? Does anyone have other suggestions? I prefer American vehicles. My biggest concerns are gas milage, room, and I like a little more ride height. I'm currently deployed but I'm trying to get an idea of vehicle when I get back.

I like the Ford Escape, Escalade, Tahoe and Yukon. They even have a Durango hybrid. Far as the most space, the Escalade, Tahoe and Yukon have the most room. Hybrid's are nice, you have the best of both worlds, a SUV but yet get gas mileage like a regular small car.

I think I may look into the Escape. I usually stay away from Ford but it def sounds like an impressive option.

                Re: OS Cars Thread

Well, I thought I just found an amazing buy, but I totally underestimated the thought process of some people.

I don't know if you guys were aware of this or not (because I sure wasn't) but the mid/late 80's Jeep Grandwagoneers are selling for an insanely large amount for that type of vehicle.

A guy not too far from has an 89 listed for sale with around 110,000 miles on it. The interior is supposedly in really good condition and the pictures don't make the exterior out to be so bad either.

It would need a tune up, but other than that the truck looks solid. The guy is asking $500 firm for it which really caught my attention because I thought I could easily pull out $3,000 from it after I touch it up and relist it.

I was unable to find a real blue book value on it so I went to ebay, autotrader, etc... and found out these vehicles (even with higher miles) are selling from $10,000 up to $25,000! Naturally I was even more so interested in this vehicle and didn't waste any time in calling this guy.

He told me there is no mice problems, it hasn't been smoked in, etc...

He did tell me there was some rust inside one of the panels, but no big deal.

                And then he stunned me.

"Yeah, and it's been Rhino Lined too."

                Uhhh it's an SUV dude....

Apparently this guy thought it would be a good idea to Rhino Line everything except the wood on this thing. I looked at the picture a lot closer this time and after having that pointed out to me could easily tell.

                And it looks horrible.

So I don't even know what I could do with this thing now if it's Rhino Lined. Can you even sand that off?

Either way, that thing would be at my shop now if not for this

You can remove it with Tal Strip. How ever if it is in the inside, that would be damn near impossible because that solution has to be hosed off with a water hose after you are done scrapping. What an idiot......

                    No kidding.

I didn't know Tal Strip would take that off, but I am really entertaining the idea.

I also spoke with the body shop I worked at in high school after I posted this and the forman told me the best way he could think of was to get it really hot and use an air chisel to scrape it all off. I imagine that's around 8-9k after that and a paint job...

The only hope with this vehicle is buying it for $500, having about $700 total in it, and trying to sell it as a hunting vehicle for about $2,800 or so.

                    Thanks for the tip though.

I just now saw this, or I would have replied sooner. Sorry.

I've got the iTouring model with the Bose sound system, Bluetooth and moon roof. Really wanted the moon roof. It's a 2012, but it doesn't have the SkyActive engine. I get about 25-30 mpg.

One year ago today that I picked it up. No regrets at all.

Dang BK, you just bought two Infinitis a couple years ago? Lol. I'm getting the itch too. I love new cars, but I need to get in a house first though. Ha!

Looking for some suggestions for a mid-size 4WD/AWD SUV. My father's looking to upgrade from his couple year old Ford Ranger. Probably not anything brand new (09 or up), though.

                              Any recommendations?
