    Re: Japanese Catastrophies

Somewhat related to this but I was watching an interview with a seismologist last night (this was very much unsensationalized) where they were talking about mega quakes and the huge spike of activity in the Ring of Fire. The seismologist says that data shows that mega quakes can happen and that the last one was 351 years ago. He then said that according to data it looks like the west coast of North America will be the next area to be hit with such a quake similar in scope to that of Japan.

Back to Japan specifically someone a while ago somewhat half jokingly said that there should be some kind of program where the Japanese are allowed to evacuate and live in the US rather than be in danger the way they are. The people could live in the homes that have been foreclosed throughout the nation and the gov't of Japan would pay some kind of subsidy or something to the US to make such a proposal work out for both sides.

The way things are going there what with new aftershocks (last night a 6.4) and the high danger of the radiation/nuclear waste it would make some sense to do a drastic evac plan like that.

Crazy to think this was three months ago.

I know we've had our fair share of natural disasters here lately but hopefully we haven't forgotten about these people. They still need our help.

        Japan Tsunami: Then and Now

The following are a collection of images comparing locations in northeastern Japan just after a devastating tsunami struck the region last March to updated images of the same areas just under a year later.
