 Re: OS Uni Snob Thread

Since we haven't talked about some random person making soccer kits out of a sport that isn't soccer in a while, here's a set done of NBA teams:

Have to say, most of these are pretty good, even though some of the sponsors are head-scratchers (Minnesota equals.... GM??? When literally everything in Minneapolis is Target [insert name of venue here]? Oh... kay. Also... Boston = Starbucks? What?). The only one that was absolutely awful stylistically, IMO, was the Rockets. New Orleans' is absolutely stunning, IMO.MLB: Minnesota Twins
 NFL: Philadelphia Eagles
 NBA: Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves
European Football: Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion
 NCAA: UNI Panthers, Iowa Hawkeyes

I agree most of those NBA/soccer mashups look good but man....The sponsorships leave me shaking my head. I also don't know how this person could completely miss on the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies were almost renamed the Express because FedEx is based out of Memphis.

Yeah... just a lot of head-scratchers. Although, I will say, even though the Grizzlies' sponsor is way off, the concept is pretty cool. Only problem is that it probably wouldn't work with FedEx as the sponsor. Also, why RedBull for the Bulls? I mean, I get it, but using it just because "Bull" is in the company's name? Really? What about United Airlines? Just makes zero sense.I agree most of those NBA/soccer mashups look good but man....The sponsorships leave me shaking my head. Re: OS Uni Snob Thread

Okay, so, since this is bugging me and because I'm bored, I figured I'd just make a list of who these should be sponsored by. As a general rule, I'll try to avoid just using the sponsor of the arena. I'm simply going by Fortune 500 companies. Make it easier on myself.

 Atlanta- Coca-Cola (check)
Boston- Liberty Mutual, Staples (based in Framingham, though I'd be more apt to give them to the Lakers or Clippers, breaking literally my only rule. Oh well.)
Brooklyn- Barclay's is fine by me.
Charlotte- BofA is fine. Possibly Lowe's as well.
Chicago- United Airlines, Boeing, State Farm, John Deere (if only to irk the farm boy/red tractor owner in me.)
 Cleveland- Nationwide Insurance
 Dallas- AT&T, Exxon Mobil
Denver- Pepsi, Dish Network, Coors, Western Union
Detroit- Ford is cool with me
Golden State- I like Pixar as a sponsor, but if you want something more Bay Area-y, Hewlett-Packard, Wells Fargo, Oracle and Google all work
Houston- Phillips 66, Conoco Phillips (yes, they are separate things. I looked it up.)
 Indiana- WellPoint, Cummins
LA Clippers- Staples, DirecTV, Disney. Pepsi isn't anywhere near California. Add the fact that Gatorade (NY Knicks) is a PepsiCo product and we have a regular monopoly on our hands.
LA Lakers- EA works for me, but I'd probably add them to the Golden State list as they're in the Bay Area as well. You could pick any of the above.
 Memphis- FedEx
Miami- Best I can do here is Office Depot, so I guess I'm fine with Lexus, but I'd say likely the best bet is to stick with American Airlines.
Milwaukee- Miller works. Northwestern Mutual, Kohl's and Harley-Davidson would also be acceptable if they were disallowed from using beer companies.
Minnesota- Target would be easiest. Best Buy also works. General Mills too.
New Orleans- I'm fine with Fender. But mostly because none of the other options are any good. CenturyLink is probably the best. But with them, most sports types think Seattle now-a-days, even though it's headquartered in Monroe, LA.
New York- Verizon, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, MetLife, Pepsi (in Purchase, so it works here), Pfizer, Goldman Sachs, etc, etc.
OKC- Chesapeake Energy is literally the only decent option here.
Orlando- Raymond James? Disney? I don't know. Just not Facebook.
 Philly- Comcast
 Phoenix- PetSmart?
Portland- Nike would be the easiest, but that'd probably lead to 8,000 jersey combinations, 5,584 of them in puke green, so I guess I'm okay with Canon.
Sacramento- Just pick a damn California company. I don't care anymore.
 San Antonio- Valero
Toronto- Air Canada is cool by me.
Utah- Literally no clue. Energy Solutions?
Washington- Fannie Mae. That'd make the Wizards everyone's favorite team. :P Guess I can't complain about IBM too much.

And that does this extremely pointless and not at all informative post that you just wasted time reading (or not). Now back to your lives.MLB: Minnesota Twins

More hockey news. I'm proud to say my Lightning have gone back to black for our third jerseys. The full look will be unveiled Sept 27 at fan fest. We will wear them Thursday Nov 14, and then wear them for every Saturday home game. So a total of 11 times. Here's a sneak peak, i like what I see:

Obviously much more clean & classy to go with our new (2 years old but new from what the 3rd jersey was) branding. I love the black look.Gators|Cowboys|Lightning|Rays|Tottenham Hotspur

 Re: OS Uni Snob Thread

I'm guessing that's actually the same reason. BlackBerry = Black Bear(y) even though Black bears and Grizzly bears are 2 different species. Still pretty lame though. Similarly they may have given Phoenix FedEx because both start with an "F" sound and end with an 'X'.Yeah... just a lot of head-scratchers. Just makes zero sense.

 Re: OS Uni Snob Thread

The sponsors on the majority of those kits have to do with the sponsors colors and not region or sound.

 Purple/Orange = FedEx and Phoenix

Blue/White = Facebook and Orlando, Minnesota and GM, IBM and Washington, Pfizer and Philadelphia, Nestle and Denver, Volkswagen and Dallas

 Red/Black = Canon and Portland

Red/Yellow = McDonalds and Houston (alternates)

Gold = Fender and New Orleans (though fender has a black and not navy outline I believe)

 Green/White/Yellow = Subway and Utah

Red/Blue = Pepsi and Los Angeles

Orange/White(/Blue*) = Gatorade and New York, Gillette (Fusion) and Oklahoma City*

Black/White = Amazon and San Antonio

 Green/White = Starbucks and Boston

Red/White = Coca-Cola and Atlanta (also fits location)

 Blue/Yellow/White = Wal-Mart and Indiana

Location = Pixar and Golden State, Tesla and Sacramento, Air Canada and Toronto (also arena sponsor), Ford and Detroit (also color fits), Bank of America and Charlotte, EA and Los Angeles (also EA latching onto the biggest name just because), Miller and Milwaukee

Arena Sponsor = Barclays and Brooklyn

Stupid Word Related Sponsors = Red Bull and Chicago, BlackBerry and Memphis

??? = Hummer and Cleveland, Lexus and Miami (there's probably something there going over my head)Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

 Re: OS Uni Snob Thread

I like Fender, but Abita/Southern Comfort, Tabasco, and Exxon are all obvious answers for a New Orleans soccer team. Not to mention People's Health, COX, Lamar, or Entergy
