OS Uni Snob Thread

Welcome to the thread where piping is scorned and random stripes will be mocked into submission.

I figured, we don't really have a thread to just randomly talk about uniforms. Sure, there's "Best/Worst" uniform threads. There's "X team got new unis" threads. But if I'm randomly watching a college basketball game and let's say Washington's wearing that god awful black, I don't really have a place to bitch about it.

Also, if you come across any uniform mockups in your internet adventures. I've posted a few awful mockups from UniWatch in OT, but I don't like hijacking that thread with that kind of stuff.

Anyways, to kick off the discussion, I tweeted about these a few days ago, but they've stuck in my head because they're so good. I know people are scared of Nike taking the NFL's license in 2012, and with good reason, but I think they could end up churning out jerseys that look like these uni mockups from UniWatch, and that'd be a good thing because these look excellent.






I'm really hoping that's the kind of direction Nike goes with the NFL license, because those are both really awesome and so much better than what both teams are wearing right now.

So... yeah... discuss those, discuss unis in general, find some mockups we can talk about, or even make your own.

I like the Bills mockup, and I'd be interested to see the white topped version. I've never been a fan of the Seahawks more "modern" digs, and would like them to keep the logos yet go back to the old-school colors, like the Rams.

I've been thinking about working on some concepts for some football teams, so I might end up actually doing that and posting them here.

Also, good call on making a thread.

I'm not a big fan of the neon green and dark blue either, but I like how that mockup keeps the green, which to me is the most annoying part of their colors, to a minimum and actually incorporates it well into the uniform. I know their fans love it, so it's not going away.

What I love about it is that it's a return to the silver helmet and pants. This all-blue look they have going on has to go away and soon. It's terrible.

I used that uni combo every single game I played in NCAA 11 when I rolled with LSU for a year in Dynasty before named rosters came out.

That is a good point. I do like the silver on those elements.

Not bad. LSU does better in a white helmet than some other teams do (coughVTcough).

I did a google image search for "NFL Uniform concepts" and found this picture of a Steelers concept that I had read about some years ago but never saw. It was a proposed third jersey for situations when the Steelers are playing on the road in very hot weather and the home team chooses to wear their white jerseys. I think the NFL didn't approve or something. I don't care for it to much. Particularly the sleeve stripes and the outline names.

I'm not a huge fan of yellow jerseys. I can't think of a situation where they work except at Oregon with the matte black helmet and black pants.

I suppose I wouldn't hate it with black pants, but that's just too much yellow. And the sleeve stripes are odd looking.

Speaking of NFL unis that almost were, Ron Wolf, our old GM, said he had the paperwork and approval to change our unis to these back in the mid-90's, but he just couldn't pull the trigger on it.



He said he always thought our gold should be an actual gold. As a man who considers our current unis among the best in sports, I'm really glad he never pulled the trigger on this.

Ugh. Yellow pants and jerseys just aren't a good look at all. The stripes are pretty bad too.

About the Bills jerseys in the OP, I like them. Much better than what they have now. The only thing is I don't care for the stripes on the shoulder too much.

Yeah, I'd heard about that. I think I also read somewhere that their original colors were metallic gold and navy (which was kind of supported by the throwbacks they wore last year).

I don't even understand how they say the Dodgers one is "one of the most recognizable hats in the world", yet it's #7.

I have a few bones to pick with those rankings. A) St. Louis is much better than the Rockies. B) Surprised that the BoSix is so low. Also shocked at Cubbies. C) Agree with the Mets location, but they really really need to eliminate black from their color set. D) Disagree with Arizona's assessment. The brick red works better for them than the purple. E) WHY ARE THE INDIANS THAT LOW? The block C caps are one of the best in baseball IMO, and Chief Wahoo may be completely racially insensitive, but it's not 2nd worst in the league.

I definitely belong in this because Alabama's uniform in football is timeless. It hasn't seen a drastic change since leather helmets went away. We did, however, have an alternate helmet at one time...





I'm not sure what I think of it. I'd love to see us try it in a non-conference game to see what it looks like. But you can't really change one of sport's most recognizable helmets..



Our baseball uniforms are great. I love these..



And back in the 90's...we sported the Blue Jays look as our alternate..





Basketball jerseys everywhere suck. They're becoming more an under armour shirt without sleeves.
